Fri Feb 07, 2014 8:47 pm

Friday 7th Feb 2014.

Juan Cala is finally officially announced as a Bluebird.

Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Spanish defender Juan Torres Ruiz Cala has officially joined the club on a two and a half year deal.

Juan joins the club having previously played for La Liga side Sevilla. The 24 year old centre-back becomes Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s seventh signing following the arrival of Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Mats Møller Dæhli, Jo Inge Berget, Kenwyne Jones, Fabio da Silva and Wilfried Zaha.

A Spanish under-19 International, Cala joined Sevilla in 2000, progressing through the club’s youth system. He made his senior debut for the La Liga side in 2009 in a 1-0 win over Rangers in the UEFA Champions League.

Cala has since made 32 appearances for the Spanish club in all competitions, spending a season-long loan spell with AEK Athens in 2011-12 season, only to be recalled by his parent club in January. Before joining Cardiff City, he made 15 appearances for Sevilla in the 2013/14 La Liga season, scoring in his last outing in a 2-1 win over Villarreal.

Now at Cardiff City, Juan has been assigned squad number 27 and is available for immediate Premier League squad selection.

All at Cardiff City welcome Juan and wish him every success in the Welsh capital.

Cardiff City have announced the signing of defender Juan Cala on a two-and-a-half year contract.

The 24-year-old had his contract with Sevilla terminated last weekend, with the Spanish club confirming he was moving to Cardiff.

Cala has trained with his new team-mates throughout the week and is available for selection in Saturday's south Wales derby against Swansea.

A Cardiff statement said: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Spanish defender Juan Torres Ruiz Cala has officially joined the club on a two-and-a-half year deal."

Cala is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's seventh signing following the arrivals of Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Mats Moller Daehli, Jo Inge Berget, Fabio, Kenwyne Jones and Wilfried Zaha.

He thinks he can play.
OGS says he's available.
Good mind games material. He can obviously play the ball out of defence and could make it a different tactical problem for spunk if he does play. On the other hand it could be Turner. ??
Keep 'em guessing.

After Sevilla released the centre-back, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moved to take advantage and sign the Spaniard on a free transfer as the Bluebirds look to survive relegation

Premier League strugglers Cardiff have completed the free signing of centre-back Juan Cala on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 24-year-old became a free agent last Saturday after La Liga outfit Sevilla agreed to cancel his contract by mutual consent.

After coming through the ranks with Sevilla, Cala broke into the first-team in 2009, making his debut in a 1-0 win over Rangers in the Champions League.

He made 32 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla, and had a spell on loan at Greek outfit AEK Athens in the 2011-12 campaign, though he was later recalled.

Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was busy during the January transfer window, with the likes of Kenwyne Jones, Fabio and Wilfried Zaha all making the switch to the Cardiff City Stadium.

Cala is available for immediate selection, and could face Cardiff's fierce rivals Swansea in Saturday's derby at the Liberty Stadium.

Cardiff are currently 19th in the Premier League, two points adrift of safety.
