Cardiff City-bound striker Javi Guerra on his 'difficult decision' to keep Ole Gunnar Solskjaer waiting
Friday 7th Feb 2014.

The free-scoring Spanish striker turned down a deadline day move from Real Valladolid last Friday but has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Cardiff at the end of the season.

Cardiff City-bound Javi Guerra admits it was a “difficult decision” to keep the Bluebirds waiting until the summer.

The free-scoring Spanish striker turned down a deadline day move from Real Valladolid last Friday but has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Cardiff at the end of the season.

Guerra, 31, told Spanish newspaper El Norte de Castilla that Cardiff were willing to pay his £5m buyout clause, something the Bluebirds did to sign Sevilla defender Juan Cala last weekend.

“Friday was a long and busy day,” said Guerra. “I made a decision and I think it was the right one.

“I have stayed to help the team and so it will be until June.

“There were opportunities to leave because there was a very important offer for the club and for me. I decided to stay and help my team-mates. It is a major challenge.

“It’s true that there was an important offer. Cardiff met the buyout clause and it was difficult to say no.

“I hope people do not think I am crazy. Here I am at ease.

“We waited until the last moment, but the day before I decided to stay and in the end it was a little confusing.

“I do not regret. It was a difficult decision.”

Guerra, formerly of Valencia and Real Mallorca, has been a regular scorer in Spanish football with 65 goals in 127 outings for Valladolid. He has netted 11 times in La Liga this season.

We only had to pay £5million to get him last week. We will get him for free in the summer, although his signing on fee will no doubt be a lot larger then than it would have been last week . That happy fact is I am sure had something to do with his decision to wait "to help his Club"!

He's a. Free agent in June when his contract runs out .if we wanted him before that we had to meet the buy out clause in his contract which was 5 million . That is why he took the other option of staying there and signing a pre-contract instead which costs us nothing .

we are getting him for free and he has signed a re contract but had we have signed him in January it would have cost us 5million, I would imagine that's his buyout clause in his contract all Spanish players have them.

Cheers. I thought that should be the case. I must have been reading it wrong. To me it seemed to saying that we'd signed the £5m buy out clause. :ayatollah:

Yes i just read the article, it's a shame we didn't get him last week as he could have been the difference between us staying up or going down, he certainly knows where the back of the net is, lets hope that when he comes we are still playing in the premiership.

If we are relegated he won't be coming here

Why,??? he knows the situation we are in, he knew there was a possibility that come the summer we could very well be in the championship but still signed a pre contract, possibly the contract is on condition that we are in the premiership.

Exactly what I'm trying to say , that's why he didn't come thus Jan because he wanted to see if we would stay up . I guarantee there is s clause in it saying it's null and void if we get relegated

Guaranteed maybe not, I would however think if his agent is any good his contract will have some clauses in there.

I just don't buy it that he wanted to stay at his current club to help them. He is just playing the percentages game.

As already suggested it's likely he will get a greater signing on fee because of his lack of transfer fee and there is also that chance of a relegation get out clause in there. All obviously in his favour and not either clubs favour, to which the latter he claims to care for.

Of course I'm hoping I'm wrong on this and our legal team have negotiated an excellent deal for us and that he is also super committed to the future of Cardiff City. Some we may find out and some we will never know.

Yeah, this guy ain't coming if we go down. He'll get out of the pre-contract or have another club buy it out.

He liked the contract just wasn't up for the a relegation fight.

All opinions welcome Craig.

I despair at some of our fans on here. Easily resort to abuse if an opinion doesn't suit them.

If you have taken "fudging clef" as an insult you dont know me very well. If it was my intention to abuse you then my choice of words would leave you in no doubt.

all I am alluding to is the nonense that he doesnt want a relegation fight. He was in one if he left or stayed so its an absurd suggestion. Thats not opinion, its a fact.

The context with which you used 'fudging clef' meant that it was derogatory and you know it. But good on you for trying to be subtle and then claiming you didn't mean it.

So our friend Javi is now in the perfect position. Two clubs that may survive a relegation fight and hopefully, for him, a third that could come in should both clubs go down.

We stay up he's on happy street in the PL with a good contract.

We go down and he keeps his current club up and its all, " I have an afffintiy for the club" and the club like the fact he kept them up and do what they can to keep him. Working on the premise we won't want a player who doesn't want to be here.

Both clubs go down and a top flight club see an opportunity to buy out a pre-contract.

That's my consipracy theory. But its cute that others like the fact he wants to see out his contract and help them survive. I wonder if the board think the same seen as he has lost them a fee.

:D guarantee was just a phrase not a itk statement you know what I meant .
If has to be in the pre-contract , if we go down I doubt he would want to play championship football and would insist on a clause , the same goes for us if we go down we wouldn't want to be stuck with paying big wages and a signing on fee .

Which would prove this is not a definite signing . There will be other clauses as well happens a lot in football .
