Swansea sack Laudrup

Michael Laudrup has parted company with Swansea City Football Club.

I t v 4 just said parted company

Sky Sports also confirm

Earlier in the day Laudrup was asked by Sky if he was leaving and said " Why should I? "

Chairman Jenkins has made Gary Monk caretaker manager for the local derby Cardiff City Clash this Saturday.
Alan Curtis will also help out for now.

BBC
" Swans sack boss Michael Laudrup and Garry Monk now in charge "

Swansea City have sacked boss Michael Laudrup and put club captain Garry Monk in charge for Saturday's clash with arch-rivals Cardiff City.
The news came a day after chairman Huw Jenkins dismissed rumours that they had discussed Laudrup's future.
"It is a decision we have taken reluctantly," Jenkins told the club's website.
"But it's a decision made in the best interests of Swansea City football club and our supporters."
Rumours had been circulating about Laudrup's future since the Swans lost 2-0 at West Ham on Saturday.
Michael Laudrup factfile

Born: 15 June 1964 in Frederiksberg, Denmark
International honours: 104 caps & 37 goals for Denmark
Managerial career: Denmark (assistant manager), Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow, Real Mallorca, Swansea City
Playing career: KB, Brondby, Juventus, Lazio (loan), Barcelona, Real Madrid, Vissel Kobe, Ajax
Individual honours: Best foreign player in Spanish football the last 25 years (1999), Denmark's best player ever (2006)
Did you know?: Laudrup is the only player to win the Spanish league five times in a row playing for two different clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Laudrup also won league titles with Juventus and Ajax.
It was their sixth defeat in eight Premier League games, leaving them only two points off the relegation places.
Monk had been tipped to join the club's back-rooms staff, but instead now finds himself in the role of head coach "for the foreseeable future".
Swansea attacking legend Alan Curtis, already part of the coaching set-up at Liberty Stadium, will assist Monk ahead as they seek revenge over the Bluebirds for their 1-0 Premier League defeat at Cardiff City Stadium in November.
Laudrup succeeded Brendan Rodgers in west Wales in June 2012 and went on to lead them to their first major United Kingdom trophy when they won the 2013 League Cup.
That took them into the Europa League, in which they won 3-0 at Spanish top-flight side Valencia in September.
Jenkins added: "It is the first time in nearly 10 years that the club has parted with a manager in this way, but we had to remove the constant uncertainty surrounding the club and Michael's long-term future with us.
"I had a meeting with Michael today in a final attempt to support him and establish a way to improve the work of the backroom team to secure the results we need over the final 14 Premier League games.
"However, after thinking long and hard about the best way forward, I felt it was unlikely we would achieve a stable environment at the club to allow us to get back to basics and produce the performance levels that have served Swansea City so well over the last few years.
"Now we need to put that uncertainty behind us and move forward as a united football club on all fronts, while placing on record our gratitude to Michael for the work he has done over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.
"I hope all our supporters can fully understand how difficult this period has been for us and I would urge everyone connected to the football club to get behind Garry Monk, the staff and players.''
The club will be making no further comment at this stage, but will endeavour to keep our supporters updated with any future development.

' Michael Laudrup '

Michael Laudrup (born 15 June 1964) is a retired Danish footballer. During his playing career, he won league titles with Ajax, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus. Whilst playing for Spanish club Barcelona, he won nine trophies, including four straight La Liga titles. He moved to arch rivals Real Madrid in 1994, with whom he won his fifth La Liga title in a row. He made his debut for the Denmark national football team on his 18th birthday in 1982, and scored 37 goals in 104 appearances. From November 1994, he captained Denmark for a total of 28 matches,[2] including the victorious 1995 Confederations Cup tournament. He retired as an active player in June 1998.

In 1999, he was voted the Best Foreign Player in Spanish Football over the preceding 25-year period[3] and in April 2000 he was knighted, receiving the Order of the Dannebrog. In November 2003, to celebrate UEFA's Jubilee, he was selected as the Golden Player of Denmark by the Danish Football Association; their most outstanding player of the past 50 years.[4] He was officially named the best Danish footballer of all time by the Danish Football Association (DBU) in November 2006.[5] He was named by Pelé as one of the 125 Greatest Living Footballers at a FIFA Awards ceremony in 2004.[6]
After retiring as a player, Laudrup took up coaching, and became assistant manager of the Danish national team. He got his first manager job at former club Brøndby in 2002, whom he guided to the 2005 Danish Superliga championship. He chose not to extend his contract with Brøndby in May 2006. He took over as coach of Getafe, Madrid's third club, and had notable success there. He brought the club comparative success in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Cup, and the team's attacking style brought plaudits. On 15 June 2012, Laudrup was appointed the manager of Premier League club Swansea City, signing a two-year contract.[7] In his first season in south Wales, Laudrup won the League Cup, the first major trophy in Swansea's 100-year history.

Is that good or bad for Saturday ? I would have rathered Laudrup there for one more game. But I don't think Chico and his amigos will be too happy taking orders from Monk .

I've been thinking the same Annis as this may result in a siege mentality when we fetch up there on Saturday.

Probably bad for us. Alan Curtis is a top football man. Played for both clubs, but is a Swansea legend. Monk, too, knows their club. Laudrup is just a journeyman. They'll be up for it this time. No reason for us to fear them, but we'll have more of a game on our hands. :ayatollah: :ole:

This is good news. For me Laudrup has left knowing his team are not capable of getting a win/Draw out of us hence having his reputation tarnished being the first Swansea manager to be doubled against Cardiff!
Can't wait :)

Gary, I would of liked Laudrup there for Saturday knowing all was not well and the club was divided on and of the pitch.
Be more interesting now.

Plenty of reason to fear us! Monks and Curt will have the boys buzzing for Saturday! This has changed the whole dynamic. It'll be back to the usual football and we're going to rip you a new one. This couldn't have come at a worse time for you. Liberty is going to be bouncing when the scum come to town

Bad timing for us. Things clearly not right this last few weeks and now they will all rally around monk and Curtis.

They will be up for it mate, but so will we.
Nothing changes IMO. Still be a 'one off' tough game that could go either way.

Seems to be 2 camps in their club at the moment.

Can you imagine Chico and co listening to Monk. Some players have considerable respect for Laudrup and with him being sacked could have a negative impact for Swansea. So it will all depend who will play on Saturday.

Sorry annis, got to disagree with you here. All their plans have just been thrown into chaos. And now have very little time to prepare for the derby. They will be up for the game but now could be very disorganised

Re: ' Michael Laudrup is Sacked and '

Tue Feb 04, 2014 8:03 pm

Good for us defo. Curtis and Monk are way way out of their depth with the w@nker players they have to attempt to manage.

:ole:

We have momentum, they are a little club in total turmoil.

I did watch the 1st half of the Swansea vs Wet Spam....the gypo's were awful and I was feeling really good about this weekend.....does this change anything? I think it does but it's still down to our players to win the individual battles :ayatollah:

Im also gutted Jonjo Shitty is'nt playing, a red card was a certainty if Medel and a few others were smart enough, but he's not playing sadly
