Juan Cala a quick analysis of our new signing

I hope that cruciate ligament tear is nothing to worry about. :?

5 goals in 32 games not too shabby! :ayatollah: (at Sevilla 2010-2014, picture cropped)

And according to Fifa he's great at intercepting and jumping which could prove very useful.

Now all we have to do is not give him any penalties or free kicks, tell him not to dribble the ball far or volley, come down on him hard if he drops out of position and he's a pretty decent acquisition!

(and get him some new contact lenses for his vision) :ayatollah: :ole:

He was valued at 3 mil on that site the other day how has it dropped to 1 mil all of a sudden

Im not sure but he seems to have potential. Having a player like that could get us a bonus goal that could prove crucial. He appears to be a decent defender, perhaps the drop is due to him terminating his contract.....

Former Spain Under-19 international Cala, 24, terminated his contract at the Spanish club.
That move made him a free agent, which allowed the Welsh club to complete his signing after the January transfer window closed on Friday night.

Its going to take a few shrewd buys to recoup the losses made on Cornelius alone though. This could be a start. :ayatollah:

We had him on a free tho, the 1 mil was for getafe to pull out, we could not have paid 1 mil as it was outside the transfer window which is not allowed :?

So we paid Getafe £1 million for him then! :)

Can't see Sevilla agreeing to cancel his contract for nothing, when we're paying Getafe for him! :?

He bought out his own contract

No we didn't, 1 mil was given to getafe to pull out of the deal he bought his own contract out so was a free

How can it be a free, if we pay £1 million towards his get out? :?

I'd suspect that even if we haven't paid Sevilla anything to allow him to pay up his contract, then we'll be paying him a sizeable signing on fee, which again isn't a free!

I never said we'd bought him inside or outside of the transfer window, just saying that if we've paid £1 million to Getafe, it's not a free is it?

You can sign free agents outside of the transfer window
You can also pay any monies owed and even make the signing after the window is closed as long as The transfer is declared and the governing body made aware of the transfer and register it . It very rarely happens because it leaves the player in limbo if the deal falls apart afterwards . (ie - if you are awaiting international clearance or there is a financial dispute over compensation to another club )
The key is that the signing is registered before the window closes ( I'm guessing it was ) . The monies , clearance , disputes , medicals are nothing to do with it .

Cheers for clearing that up Thomas, so he is/was a free agent, but not a a free signing then! :D

It's a kind of loophole .
He is a free agent because his registration was with Sevilla who released him . If he had signed a pre contract agreement with Getafe to go there in the summer , that is what Cardiff are buying not the player , that is a legal issue not a registration issue which doesn't effect the transfer window .
IF Getafe had a pre-contract agreement it is legally binding , so in other words they are getting a million pound for somebody who has never played for them  football has gone mad .

If a player signs on a free (not that that is what technically happened here) his 'value' is stipulated to a year of his wages, if I'm not mistaken. So either the £1M precontract buyout was considered a technical transfer fee, or his wages are £19K per week.
