A forum for all things Cardiff City

Was told today that Dalman was overheard at the game on Saturday saying that a striker in Spain was also going to sign for City after the window in the same way Cala has been i.e. contract paid up making him a free agent
It was interesting that Sky were reporting just before the deadline that Dalman was trying to bring in two players at the last moment and then nothing was heard about it again and then Cala was signed next day.
The other message board are suggesting it might by Javi Guerra who has a very impressive record in La Liga. Real Valladolid claim the transfer was indeed on but did not go through before the deadline and the player would remain until the end of the season when his contract ran out. The buy out clause in his contract was said to be €6m and Cardiff apparently offered €3m as he only had 6 months of his contract left. One would imagine Guerra would have to empty his bank account to buy out his contract and then trusting he would get it back from City as a signing on fee. Very doubtful possibly and would throw the whole transfer window system into chaos but wouldn't be surprised however if Tan was willing to try it just like Watford took advantage of a loophole in the loan system before it was closed?

I believe that an out of contract player must have been out of contract at the end of the transfer window to be able to sign for another club. Anything else would be open to abuse.

I'm surprised that a transfer system is legal in Europe with strict freedom of trade and movement laws ,if a player isn't contracted how can anyone stop them from being employed ? If its UEFA doing it then should the courts be getting involved ?

Sports get a couple of exceptions to some of the rules to maintain integrity of competition.
There's nothing to stop players getting contracts with clubs, they just wouldn't be eligible to play in first team fixtures.
