A forum for all things Cardiff City

Monday 3rd February 2014.
Wilfried Zaha arrived to a standing ovation and left the pitch hailed as the next Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Manchester United winger kicked off his loan spell at Cardiff with a blistering debut.
He inspired a second-half comeback that hauled the Bluebirds off the bottom of the Premier League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reckons that could prove a glimmer of light for United boss David Moyes in the long-run.
But for now, Wilf Zaha – given a hero’s welcome off the bench by Cardiff fans – can help lift the gloom at the troubled club.
And the Cardiff boss has tipped the 21-year-old to eventually fill the void left by Ronaldo at United.
Solskjaer said: “He is one of the best I have seen with the ball.
“He has quick feet and is brave like Cristiano and wants to go forward.
“But he has got to make a decision about how good does he want to be and how much does he love this game. He can grow up to become a proper player like Ronaldo if he wants.
“I have never seen anyone work as hard as Ronaldo. Before training, after training, he was an exceptionally dedicated man and proved to everyone what dedication gets you.
“I am not afraid of using Sir Alex Ferguson or Cristiano as an example when I have to because to get the best out of your talent you need to be dedicated.
“It’s a desire and attitude from within. It’s what you’ve got in your heart and Cristiano’s always had it.”
Zaha has been unable to live up to the £15million United paid 12-months-ago but has now found a manager who knows how to succeed at Old Trafford.
For now, his display helped deliver a priceless win for Cardiff in their fight for survival.
Solskjaer said: “Everyone needs to be loved. It’s like with your kids. You love them but you also have to tell them straight. It’s the same with players.
“He came on and made an impact, he lifted everyone and just wants to play football.
“That’s something he will get loads of here. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
Kenwyne Jones continued his knack of scoring on his debut – as he did for Sheffield Wednesday in 2004, Stoke City in 2005 and Sunderland in 2007 – with Cardiff’s winner.
That came just 73 seconds after Craig Bellamy cancelled out an early goal from Robert Snodgrass.
Norwich left south Wales frustrated but did bombard the Cardiff goal in the second half only to find keeper David Marshall inspired and charmed.
Twice they hit the woodwork, Bellamy cleared Gary Hooper’s header off the line and Marshall made a series of top saves.
It all conspired to send Norwich, with one win from their last nine league games, back in the mire and facing Manchester City next.
Boss Chris Hughton admitted: “It’s a bad defeat but we’ve shown enough to prove we can play when things are tight.
“We are hurting from this loss because we felt we warranted a win. Next we’re up against one of the best teams, but that is the challenge.”

Comparing Zaha to Ronaldo

your beginning to worry me ole

He can be the first big named player called Zaha. I had my doubts a few months back but if he continues to do what he did vs Norwich and get back and help out too, he'll be one hell of a player.
If he's been doing that in training too then he must have shafted Moyes' daughter because theres just no other logical reason why he's not in the Man Utd side.

He's got the bag of tricks. All he needs to do now is score 30+ goals a season.

Hes already older than ronaldo and ronaldo was already one of the best players im the prem at 20-21.
Hes like a good version of that arsenal winger we loaned and ended up at ipswich. Jay emanual Thomas I think his name

I just want to admit I've slagged Zaha off prior to joining us, simply because I thought he was an expensive transfer for utd considering he has no prem experience.
However, I just want to say, he did so well in his 50 ish mins of football.
Very impressed and I hope he keeps delivering.

Don't worry, I was the same
Watching him at the CCS last season and he couldn't manage to gets past superkev
I think utd have added to his game massively tho, attitude seems better and tracks back with a point to prove
I wonder if he can add goals to that too. Ronaldo was world class by his age but bale wasn't there yet so anything is possible...

The boy has pace and skill,he did well on saturday and he's not even match fit .
In the second half the defender marking him didnt know what to do with him as he was to quick he was unsure whether to make a tackle or stand him up,he will create a number of chances for us ,when we were breaking with bellers, noone and zaha we were very quick that is gonna catch teams out .
Have to say mind how young and valencia are in front of him is a joke really they are no better than him ,other than dive ashley young very rarely is a stand out player for utd in the years he's been there, last week or two he's scored 2 good goals but that deflects what little else he does ,has to be personal with moyes ,may see a difference though if he does well for us .

In no way does Ole say he's the next Ronaldo, just says theres glimpses with his pace and ability to take on a man

Steve Davies, learn to read.
He just compared some of his attributes like Ronaldo.
He said he could be like him if he wants too.
The play off games with Palace changed my opinion on him, he turned up and gave it his all and made the big moments.. getting the goals at Brighton, done well in the home tie then got the penalty v Watford.

I can read fine thanks very much and the title of the thread clearly unless I am blind says Zaha can be the next Ronaldo
In my opinion not a chance in hell

Loan star Wilfried Zaha ready to wow Cardiff fans after blistering Bluebirds debut
WILFRIED ZAHA has set his sights on becoming a big hit at Cardiff.
The on-loan Manchester United winger made a blistering start on his Bluebirds debut to help the Welsh club come from behind to beat Norwich 2-1.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reckons Zaha’s introduction after just 38 minutes gave the Cardiff supporters a lift and the 21-year-old, who cost United £15m a year ago, is determined to win them over for the rest of the season.
“I’m happy. I hope to be one of the fans’ favourites. Every game I came on I will give it my all”
Wilfried Zaha
Zaha said: “I was just glad to get on. We needed the crowd to help and the noise the fans made helped to push us on.
“I’m happy. I hope to be one of the fans’ favourites. Every game I came on I will give it my all.”
The win allowed Cardiff to move off the bottom of the Premier League and above Fulham into 19th place.
But Zaha believes his new club can now use the success as a springboard to get out of the drop zone.
Zaha added: “We can get out of the relegation zone if we just believe. Getting these points have helped a lot.
“The manager just told us to push on. We were at home and there’s no reason why we should be on the back foot all the time. Go and attack.”

Ole, You’re Wrong: Why Man Utd’s £15m Dazzler Isn’t Going To Be The New Ronaldo
Much hype has surrounded Wilfried Zaha since he burst onto the scene in the Championship while playing for Crystal Palace. Sir Alex Ferguson signed him for Manchester United for a big fee, £15m, and Roy Hodgson has capped the youngster twice for the England national team, perhaps to stave of the nation of his birth, the Ivory Coast.
However, for reasons unknown he has been out of favour at United under David Moyes and has made just two Premier League appearances for the Old Trafford club, which amount to a total of 30 minutes. This had led him to move, on loan, to Cardiff City where he is now playing under the guidance of former United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
His arrival in Wales has led him to be compared to another former United great, Cristiano Ronaldo, by Solskjaer himself who told reporters.
“He is one of the best I have seen with the ball. He has quick feet and is brave like Cristiano and wants to go forward.
“He can grow up to become a proper player like Ronaldo if he wants.”
It is a bold claim, and a comparison that both honours and pressurises Zaha, but is it a fair comparison?
