Booing a pass back

Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:52 pm

To Marshall, seriously? Can anyone who actually did that yesterday defend that? There is nothing wrong in football with keeping possession. Yet everyone boo's if Turner punts it up field.

I think the boo was because we went from the edge of their area to our keeper.

It's because there's no movement up front so they just end up passing it back to Marshall before he's out of options and has to boot it up field himself.

If we were passing it around with any urgency I don't think it would be a problem.

Which us a marked improvement from surrendering possession. It's a basic of football.

possession is king is the biggest myth in football, its where the possession is, and how effective you are with it that counts, teams regularly win with less than 50% possession

Malky gave us a solid defence is the biggest myth in football. However it is funny watching people say surrendering possession is better than keeping it

How about putting the ball in the box rather than pass it back to the keeper to hoof it up field :ole:

Very good point! I think a lot of people on this board don't realise this. Some people are also getting their knickers in a knot.

The issue is not passing the ball back for reasons of slowing the tempo, allowing team mates to get back into position or planning a specific attack; the reason supporters get infuriated and vocal is when some players are unable to react quickly and intelligently enough so as to exploit creative opportunities.

Real world isn't like FIFA you can't do that every time, honestly our fans lights are on but no one is home. Actually thinking surrendering possession is preferable to keeping it

Get boo'd for not keeping possession but when we keep possession some of our fans boo, pathetic.

Re: Booing a pass back

I boo everything, I spend the whole match booing.

When we score goals I boo the team for not scoring earlier.

Still pathetic . Seems like many would rather is just give away possession .

Re: Booing a pass back

When we were in deep possesion in Norwich half is there any need to give it back to Marshall who then kicks it high for a fifty fifty challenge.

We did, passed it back to Marshall from their box who then hoofed it to no one, very annoying. As a paying fan people can react how they want, many pay their hard earned money and if they think a play was shit, thn they have every right to vent their frustration. Who are you to say I or someone see are pathetic for booing a player, I personally shouted "get him off" at witts coz he was pissing me off.

No one is questioning your right to say it, just that you are a moron for doing so, but then maybe I'm wrong, game changing cut through passes are always on every time  just like FIFA

who mentioned surrender.........but the facts are, over 90% of goals are scored from 2 passes or less..fact
the more you keep possession especially going backwards, all your doing is allowing your opponents to organise.

I was disapointed with that move,

Cardiff were in a good position in the norwich 1/3 in defence to attack transition.....(norwich defence not had time to organize) Cardiff slowed down the tempo because they did not either have:

1) the confidence to play a decent forward pass
2) Not enough support going forward

They played the ball backwards from a fairly promising situation.

Re: Booing a pass back

Mon Feb 03, 2014 8:07 am

lets be honest here ,Marshalls distribution isnt his strong point,so you go from being in the attacking half to giving it to the worse passer of the ball on the field to attempt a 70 yarder...........makes tons of sense to me.

I usually don't mind back passes as it keeps the ball from the opposition - that is until Marshy hoofs it either into touch or as others have said to a 50:50 ball.

I think the team lacked a lot of confidence - even Caulker at one point, his first touch from the pen area nearly put it into touch

I'm glad we hung on but I lost count of the times the old fellas by me said "that's in" after wave after wave of Norwich attacks - only to find that it wasn't

Only way to get confidence is to work through it, however badly you are playing.

On the Whitts thing, it was a shame people got on his back, but tactically it was a brave and ultimately correct decision.

As for Bellamy, I'm afraid he got that all badly wrong - very few actually booed Whitts and I for one would give someone a bollocking if I heard them boo anyone in our team. Far more, and I mean far more, people stood and applauded him off.
