The Man City 'incident' - police perspective

Sat Feb 01, 2014 9:38 am

Fans were in the aisles and a over-zealous steward tried to remove one, who told him to 'f-off'. The steward then tried to drag the bloke out by his hair. At this point lots of fans tried to grab the guy and pull it back in, escalating into the steward being assaulted and also the policeman who came in to help.

There is clear footage of this and its likely to be bad news for a few.

Man City stewards were useless, and Man u ones were over-aggressive, Arsenal fantastic - the whole set-up there is an example both of these clubs should seek to follow.

Does look like a few fans went too far though.

If its true a steward tried to drag someone out byntheir hair then im afraid the steward was asking for trouble and is an assult in itself.

I was slightly too far away from the incident to see what happened but it's Showsec Stewards yet again. They're agency employed and not anywhere near as professional as the official Club Stewards are. They've got horrendous people skills and enflame every situation they get involved with. There's been numerous incidents over the years and it's got to the point where fans are put off going because they can't stand, sing and generally enjoy themselves.

That sounds a fair shout. Much better than most of what has been thrown our way since !

Both at Man U and Man City there seemed to be some decent stewards who were polite and helpful and others who behaved like nightclub bouncers. Now, given what some footy fans are like, especially after a few beers, then that is only going to end up with trouble.

Couldn't tell what was going on from youtube. The police CCTV though will be able to count the freckles.
