Kara Mbodj

Thu Jan 30, 2014 1:18 pm

Cardiff are trying to do a deal for Senegalese international Kara Mbodj, 24, who plays for Genk. He is a graduate of Patrick Vieira's Diambars Academy in Senegal.

As I remember him from his time in Tromsø... He was great. Sentral/Def midfield.

Kara joined Tromsø IL in February 2010 from the Diambars academy.Kara has got off to a good start in Tromsø, forming an impressive partnership with local youngster Ruben Yttergård Jenssen in the center of Tromsøs midfield. Comparison's were drawn between him and Patrick Viera due to his physical approach and dominance in the air. He has put in multiple man of the match performances leading him to be scouted by Arsenal FC only to fall to injury when the scouts arrived. His hard tackling, crazy hairstyles and aggressive behaviour leading him to becoming a fans favourite. He got his first goal against Aelesunds FK, after putting in a tackle just in front of his own goal he sprinted the length of the pitch to get on the end of a cross. Tromsø IL legend and ex-manager Steinar Nilsen has stated Kara to be the best combative midfielder he's seen let alone in Norway. Football pundit and ex-Arsenal defender Lee Dixon stated that Mbodj could well be the answer to both Arsenal's defensive frailties as well as their lack of strength in their midfield, touting Kara to partner Jack Wilshere in the centre of midfield for years to come. Rumour also has it that Liverpool FC and Club Brugge are also interested in the services of Kara.

Kara joined Genk on 1 January 2013, after signing a three and a half year contract with the club on 31 October 2012

If he's as good as he is on FM he would be an unbelievable signing! They call him the black beast don't they? He can also play centre back as well.

Oh man, I have to say, I remember this guy when he was in the Norwegian league. At the time it was clear as day he was the best player I had seen in the league for years and years. Such a consistent performer, I'm surprised he's at Genk now. I can't imagine him not exceeding expectations if he signs for CCFC.

The Boy George song - Karma Chameleon - provides lots of opportunities for a name such as Kara

This will be a very good signing if it comes through. He reminds me of Patrick Vieira.

Yeah, key-player for Ghana (reached quarterfinals) in the world cup, and totally dominating in the Norwegian League. Never had a bad performance. Kara can't be compared, really.

Cardiff signing Kara would be nonsense.

Kara was outstanding in Tromsø his first season 2010, earning 5 "player of the match" awards. The next 2 seasons he was lacking a bit touch, actually seemed a bit uninterested, mostly the last season before he joined Genk. All together Kara earned only 2 "player of the match" reward those last 2 years.
Keep in mind, this took place in the Norwegian "Tippeliga", ranked 27, or so, by UEFA. How he has performed in Genk I really dont know.
From what I saw of him the last season in Tromsø I really doubt Kara will be the man City need.

I have watched my fair share of Tromsø matches and Kara would be a great signing - I cant´t recall him ever backing out - he´s 100% the real deal!

Comparing him to Annan is a joke in my opinion. That little man is 20 shorter than Kara, and is quite psychotic at times... Do I have to mention that he pulled a Suares and took a bite of his opponent in Norway?

Kara can play both DM and FC, and if he sees the ball falling down from above, you can be sure he is making a run for it - no matter how far away he is - and he is going to win the duel - this is 1.92. of muscles ... :)
