When A-Corn signed - This forum

Thu Jan 30, 2014 10:47 am

I know things haven't worked out, but it just shows how over the top football fans get when we have no idea. As I see people get excited about that Rincon, claiming Solksjaer is being a genius by getting him...........................

Everyone spouting off as he was a 'waste' and how it was 'always going to fail'. You bummed Mackay for it a few months back, now you class him lower than scum for the same signing.

Thats a funny thread and this forum in a nutshell.

Lots of "amazing signing" and "hes the real deal" etc etc.

But what I found most interesting was Soskjaers comments at the time.....

Cult of Personality wrote:Manchester United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his former club to sign FC Copenhagen striker Andreas Cornelius, who he believes has the ability to go “as far as he wants.”

Cornelius, 19, signed for Copenhagen in April this year and has enjoyed a remarkable start to life as a professional footballer, scoring 10 goals in his first 11 appearances, and has already been awarded his first cap for Denmark.

The teenager scored his first European goal on Thursday against Solskjaer’s Molde in the Europa League, and the former United striker is clearly impressed with what he saw from the talented striker, going as far as claiming he has all the right attributes to succeed at Old Trafford.

“Yes, he’s definitely an option (for United),” Solskjaer said. “He has the qualities to play at the top level if he continues his development.

They went by stats, what the media says about him and videos we saw of him, obviously people are gonna think he's a good signing at the time until we saw him play live, seriously do you post anything relevant or just bullshit over and over

"if he continues his development", so he's not ready for top level

Doesn't matter what league, people are rated as a player

Anyone thinking a player is the real deal after scoring 18 in the Danish league or a YouTube video deserve their threads bumped :D

When a club signs a new player, everyone(Staff and Fans)wants and hopes for the best from that player. They want to hear stories of how much of potential the player could have and the big clubs that are/were sniffing around him.

When we signed Peter O we had our doubts but we all hoped he could prove us and all wrong.
We now apply the same hopes to Kenwyne Jones as do Stoke to Peter O.

That's just hopes and expectations.Without them we would be dull and morbid.

I had high hopes for Acorn and I am disappointed he hasn't lived up to them.
I won't apologise for that. I don't think any fan should have to either.

Hoping someone is good and saying someone actually is good - are two vastly differing things though.

do understand your point, but its natural to be positive about new signings, otherwise whats the point.

and..not everyone bummed Malky..his record at Watford wasnt great, had a bucket full of money given him and bought a double decker bus. i know far more people that thought jones for makay was a terrible move, than thought it a good move..

Hope did seemingly turn delusional when he signed. As the bumped thread shows.

Not all bummed malky for this signing many thought it was a massive risk spending that amount and wages on an untested player..

I assumed Malky knew what he was doing spending 8mil on a striker.

He could still go on to have a good career in a top league, all the people now slating him are just as bad as those who hyped him up without seeing him kick a ball. None of us have seen enough of him to truly judge the lad. OGS may have wanted to work with him but the wages and politics of Tan v Malky may have sealed Cornelius destiny.

Why be so defensive. I'm not attacking anyone. Some fans are shit imo, the majority are not.

I barely remember the names of any posters on here. I don't know where pretty much anyone stands as so many people post on here. I can't remember seeing the name Griff before.

They went by price. Many couldn't believe he was so rubbish because of the money paid for him. People refused to believe he was an absolute dud because of that transfer fee and later the wages. I still see people using that as an excuse and still the line 'he cant be crap because we wouldn't have paid so much money for him if he was crap' is being used.

Willy Wonka is right on this. Football fans are fickle. Every single one of us are fickle at times. We all have our preferences and we all have our opinions and want our football club to be moulded on those opinions and our ideology of how it should be run. Deep down we're all football managers at heart who think we know best. The modern football fan is the most fickle of the lot and year on year the new influx of these fans get worse. Premier League fans, those who've never supported a team in a lower league are often the worst and least knowledgeable I've found when it comes to football.
