A forum for all things Cardiff City

I'm not having a go or blaming him for anything, just want people's opinions. Are they the same as mine?
I don't notice him much in games, he came with a big reputation, the fans loved him coz of it, he cost a lot of money, but like I said I really don't notice him. Is that a good thing??? Because he's doing everything simple or is that a bad thing??? Because he should be doing more. I really liked him to start with but just don't think he's as good as we make out. Yes I know he's in a new country, new language etc. Just want people's opinions on him?
Thought we done well today but once again I think we lacked the killer pass and creative midfielder to at least give Frazier a few chances.

I think he's overrated but thats all I'm going to say as the forum classes realism as negativity and ill probably end up banned for saying the truth. The guy needs to hit the cardio machines.

I thought he was great at the start of the season but just watched the goals tonight and he stood off young and allowed young to get a shot away! Needs sorting right away and not just medel! Story of our season!

Vastly Overated

Cheers for your opinions
I've noticed a lot, after I come home from a game and watch the highlights, a lot of our goals conceded the commentator will mention medel in the build up to the goal for standing off or losing his man. If nobody believes me. Keep an eye out on future games and see if it happens in the future. This isn't a negative post just an opinion

Another of Roathies banned and fiercely opposed opinions starting to now sink in.
Shock horror.

Only shines in games when we're winning, goes missing far too often in big games

I totally agree. And maybe only today I realised it and thought back that he is overrated, because I've talked nothing but good things about him. I think maybe we should play him somewhere in the back 4 and get another creative midfielder in the side

He definitely needs to lose a bit of timber

Dont rate him at all, another vinnie sideways(ex spurs player vinnie samways nickname)
Tue Jan 28, 2014 10:46 pm
started off class, 90odd percent pass rates, lack of pace but made up for it with positioning.
seems to be off the pace a bit now, passes going astray and loosing his marker, getting swallowed up against more physical players that the perhaps didn't have in the Spanish league!
could gunnerson do a better job?... im not sure..

Fabulous player typical South American. Not always appreciated by gung ho Europeans. His anticipation and reading of the game is excellent. Not helped by having to play alongside Whittingham.

Nothing special - has gone backwards since his impressive initial games. Is not giving as much protection as originally envisaged and it might be time to drop him to the bench.
Tue Jan 28, 2014 11:01 pm
Not at his best today.
Although it did seem like every time he won a tackle the ref blew up for a foul

I would stick by him and let him sort his form out, our midfielders aren't very good...it's a team game and when the team struggles, they all struggle.
Medel plays for Chile..That statement in itself tells me that he is'nt an ordinary player.
He has lost his form and confidence in his team-mates.
Wed Jan 29, 2014 12:38 am
Like a few others (Whitts)I think Medel is slow in adjusting to the new style of play, could also lose a few pounds but a class player.
I think now the season really begins, no excuses we need victories against our lower rivals irrespective of performance. Norwich is massive

I'm sorry but what Medel did for that goal was inexcusable , not only did he stop and not make any attempt to tackle or block the shot, he also turned his back on young as he got the shot away, for fear of being hit by the ball!!
More like a poodle than a pitbull, we are in a real scrap at the moment and if we are to have any chance of staying up, he needs to be showing far more commitment than that!!
Wed Jan 29, 2014 11:13 am
i remember when i signed i thought he looked a bit on the big side.. but now he looks massive, probably needs to lose up to a stone, and it must be affecting his performances.
Still a very good player however.
Wed Jan 29, 2014 11:56 am
Not impressed at all. Why he is called pitbull I have no idea as anyone watching him rolling around the floor and screaming like a girl in the derby match will have seen. He always looks for the short safe pass to keep up his stats and as he is a defensive midfielder then he rarely gets the ball forward. If ole is looking for players to get us going forward and play more exciting football the he will be a fish out of water,

Anyone who believes a football doing things on a football pitch to keep up stats is, quite frankly, an idiot.

His ability to read a game and astute passing of the ball without even having time to look up tells me he is class above the rest, his main problem is those around him that cant think the game as quick.

Not disputing the fact that he reads the game well, but there's no excuse whatsoever for the way he defended on youngs goal.
He may be classed as one of our better players , but he also needs to stand up and be counted just like everyone else !!

As a neutral observer, who've seen three of Cardiff's most recent games, I have to say you are misdirecting your frustrations. As a defensive midfielder, your entire objective is to play simple passes, run down opposing wingers trying to cut in just to disturb them and be an open passing option for defenders and backtracking wingers pushed back from offense. As well as making tackles and interceptions in midfield.
Medel does these things well, he has had a couple of sloppy tackles but otherwise seems like one of Cardiff's better players at simply doing his job. Though he was probably to blame for 2-0 yesterday as he was simply missing.
Next to Marshall, Noone, Declan John (at the moment) and Campbell, Medel is one of the most secure spots right now.
Wed Jan 29, 2014 12:38 pm
Agree with some of the negative comments on here and there is little doubt that he has gone off the boil a bit. But to blame him for Young's goal is harsh. Medel had every right to anticipate that both Noone and Kev would deal with Young. Noone let him cut in far too easily. Drop him to the bench as someone suggested? And who exactly is going to play his role? Gunners? Do me a favour.

I think he has been fantastic for us
- Passing accuracy is always >85%
- Provides great support to turner who is poor with the ball at his feet, also gives good support to Declan John
- Has been told to improve his dicipline which he has - this sort of change is going to impact his play as we can all see his is much less aggressive on the field than in previous seasons
- A defensive holding midfielder is not meant to be noticed, he puts in tackles, protects the back four as much, relives pressure with good passing, hasselling and good tackles - Medel does all of these things and demonstrated this yesterday
I can understand fans disapointment that he is not a huge prolific player as he came with a £11million pricetag
Im not going to say that he is world class either - but no one can deny that he has been given a job to do and he is fantastic at it

Mr Sideways.
His first option is always to pass to the side or back.
Slows down our attacks more often than the oppositions.
Looks overweight and a bit sluggish.
Only worth about a third of what we paid for him.
Wed Jan 29, 2014 1:55 pm
Passing sideways isnt an issue for me, we have players who can pass alongside him.
problem is he is over weight and out of form, started the season well but has looked lost for a number of weeks. Without doubt we overpaid.
