I have asked myself this question for years with Cardiff missing out on the premiership several times, why should a championship players bust there guts out to get to the prem for then to be discarded ?.

Even championship players earn more in a week than us mere mortals.

Yes I agree but can you see my point why should they because the class gap is so much as we have all seen this season.

Rickie Lambert
Adam Lallana
Two straight off the top of my head that have done well from the Championship and lower and are now England internationals who have done very well in the Premier League.
Joe Allen another who went up with Swansea and could next season be playing in the Champions League with Liverpool if they manage to get top 4.
If they never try and perform in the Championship they'll never get their chance in the Premier League or further. If Lallana or Lambert had that attitude then they would have never gained England caps and Lallana would not regarded as a top talent in the Premier League who is wanted by the likes of Manchester United.

Because they want to achieve success and hope to get the chance to prove themselves at PL level. Plus if they're in contract they might get paid more to sit on the bench of a PL club than they do playing for a champ club.PLUS if they fall out of favour they might get picked up by another champ club (Matt Connolly anyone) and get paid more money.
Pointless thread!

I know it's swansea but Leon Britton was playing for a team that nearly left the football league and is now in the prem! That's an achievement and a half for him. Especially as he doesn't pass the ball forewords more than once a season!

Because it's their job, they probably have promotion bonuses and the opportunity to play in the Premiership is what every player should want. Or would you rather our players pre book a holiday to clash with the playoff dates, then blow our opportunity to get into the playoffs by losing away to Sheffield Wednesday on the last game of the season?

Didn't they sell him to Sheffield united and then but him back? Or was it a loan

Loan spell. Gary Speed was manager for them at the time.
