MATTHEW CONNOLLY

What on Earth happened to Matthew Connolly?

This is a player who helped the club finally progress to the Premier League, before pulling his weight in impressive defensive performances against Man City and Everton at the start of the season.

He's also a goalscoring defender, having picked up five goals in 35 appearances altogether - better than Craig Bellamy's four goals in 42 appearances.

How was clumsy Kevin Theophile-Catherine allowed to walk straight into the side ahead of Connolly, and why is that still the case? Did I miss the reports of a bust-up with Malky, or is this really just as bemusing as I think it is?

Would appreciate some insight and opinions. :ayatollah:

Ah, wasn't aware of the current injury. Still bemused as to why he was dropped after two positive results, though. :?

Connolly is not a full back super Kev and theo get forward Connolly has no pace for that position

He is a centre half, and he can play a bit. Probably better suited to the premier league than the wallop down the middle of the championship.

He was good for us last year! These players shouldn't be slagged off...they worked hard to get us here!

Connolly played a huge part in our successive season but I don't think that the Premier League is his level as a fullback. I'm not sure about how he'd be as a centre back though.

Better than as a full back - and his own preferred position.

Has no work rate, glad he's out of the team.

Think we should be looking to get rid of him next season if we stay up.

If we don't sign a centre half this window, I can see him partnering Caulker soon.

I think he is more comfortable on the ball than Hudson or Turner and he scores a few goals too. Can't see why people have a problem with him.
