A forum for all things Cardiff City

I've got a good feeling about this kid. He's fast, can defend and can pass the ball.
I think full back (both sides) is our weakest area of the park at the moment. Dec is great but he is too young to be thrown in to a relegation fight every week and he needs to learn more about the defensive side of the game. I don't mind Taylor but his lack of pace was being targeted before he got injured. Super Kev can't pass, KTC has flattered to deceive and hasn't really impressed since the Swansea and United games. His first touch is poor and defensively he switches off.
Ive look on the United forums and they rate Fabio highly and are sad to see him leave. Incidentally, they rate far more highly than Buttner who many on here have been calling for us to sign on loan.
He had a rough time at QPR but picked up a lot of niggling injuries and struggled to get going. He was also affected by QPR changing their manager. At Man United he was rated higher than his brother a few years back but Fergie opted for Raphael because he believed he filled out quicker and was capable of coping with the physical side of the English game, nevertheless when he had a run of games in 2011 he still managed to keep his place ahead of his brother in the Champions league final.
Who would have thought a few years ago we would be signing a 23 year old who has already played in a champions league final!
I can't wait to finally have a full back who will finally be able to affect the game in the final third of the pitch.

Open to this signing.
His brother managed to develop faster and get more into his own and dominate his place in the team.
I believe Fabio can be like his brother. He is finally gonna get stability and more chances here.
He came through Man United and had a few games at United, not many but he did knock on the door.
Left backs are hard to come by well good ones these days.

Described earlier on the radio as a "red card waiting to happen".
QPR fans didn't seem to rate him at all apparently.
Hope Ole can bring the best out of him

Wasn't given a chance at United.
Evra will always be first choice.
Butner will go the same way.
Rafael got his chance due to being a RB and Smalling and Jones are both more natural Centre half a than full backs.

A player like that it's all about how you play him and in what system. He has talent obviously, especially going forward.
Judge him if and when he plays.
As for qpr they had a lot of very good players who couldn't perform.

I remember Fabio played in the middle alongside his brother Rafael against Arsenal in the F.A cup 2011. This resulted in a 2-0 win, where Fabio scored the first goal in the game. Rafael was heavily involved in both goals aswell. Sir Alex needed to rest a few players and said he wanted enthusiasm and energy in the middle so he played them.
I think Fabio is a better finisher than his brother. He has actually scored a few goals I belive, having not played too many games its pretty decent at LB I reckon. However, he can also play rightback without problems, and as mentioned above, he might even be used as a winger or midfielder in some games as he got pace, energy and is quite aggressive, maybe too much so. I belive a new club with a manager like Ole is just what he needs to get his career up and running again. He need games. Played in a reservesteam game couple days ago and did good. I really don't see why Moyes don't play him more often as gametime and belief is exactly what he needs. Cant expect him to perform when he hasnt got any minutes on the pitch..when he came on last game for us, people expecting him to jump out there and be awesome, then he felt he needed to do everything at once, hence the red card. Bad management that.
Anyways, you will get a great player who will do nice offensive linkup play with your wingers

Both brothers love a red card, I do think Ole will look after Fabio and get the best out if him, Ole is doing some nice business

Suggests Freiburg in Germany are after Fabio and think a million Euros will get him as his contract is nearly up.
Couldn't get a quote from the manager as he did not want to alert other clubs.

United fan here.
I think i speak for the majority here when i say that we are gutted that it hasn't worked out for Fabio and that he's had to move on. Delighted for the choice of club though, we'll definately be keeping an eye on Cardiff with Ole in charge, and the signings he's been making.
Anyway, on Fabio, i think you's have got yourselves a cracking little player. Brilliant attitude, like his brother plays every game as if its his last, and i think he'll be a firm fans favourite in time. Unbelievable that Moyes hasn't given him a chance this season and favoured the hapless Buttner at left back, or Smalling at right back. It was no surprise that in a rare outing and keen to impress he got sent off in 5 minutes. Generally he's not as impetuous as his twin, and is usually the calm one.
Fabio will need time to settle as he's played so little football. In his first few seasons at Utd he rarely played cos of Evra and because he was the most delicate player i think i've ever seen. He could not complete a game without getting a niggle, and not filling out like Rafael has meant he's had a lot slower development. He did impress last year at QPR but didn't play when it was clear they were getting relegated and Harry was planning for the future.
Personally i rate him higher at RB (where he played in CL final) than at LB, due to being right footed and just looking more natural there. I think he ended up at LB to accomodate Rafael in his early years where Fabio was considered the better talent and certainly the more versatile.
Fabio is very comfortable on the ball, tenacious, enthusiastic and with a real eye for goal. He's a pretty good 1v1 defender and his decision making is also pretty good. His position could be better, he's not the best in the air and he's still a bit delicate but all in all i think you's have made an excellent signing.

Thank you for taking the time to write this mate. It pretty much echoes the things I've read on your forums about him. Can't wait to see him and Zaha in a City shirt now.

My only concern is Fabio gets injured easily. Touch wood he will be fine in many years to come

Top post on him.
Considering people have their doubts and his spell at QPR.

Agreed.
Others have said he plays left back but I also rate him better at right back. More natural as he's right footed. The fact he can play left back though is a bonus in itself. We have an obvious weakness at right back with Theo not fast enough to cover when he breaks forward. Fabio has the pace to get back and cover I believe and get stuck in. If anything a bit of tenacity is what we need but we need tenacity along with quality rather than robotic players who just run like machines for 90 minutes. He's a mixed bag in my opinion and brings a bit of both to the table. I'd have him on the right and our young lad Declan John on the left who's done very well and also has the pace to overlap whilst getting back to cover if we're countered. If we're going to play this possession based game then we need these types of full backs to get back quickly just as you have Evra and Rafael etc.
Cheers for the insightful post. Nice to read the posts of fans from other clubs as often our fans are blinkered by the lights at our own club. However, I do hope you lose Tuesday night.
