It had more clauses than a Santa convention. Froch has been clever here as now the fight will go to purse bids and under IBF rules Froch would get 85% of the purse making it impossible for groves to accept.
Groves should go off and fight someone else to get himself ranked no two and let Froch fight Chavez and have the fight later in the year under more favourable terms.

On what basis have you concluded that Groves will win? He was clearly gassed in the last fight and although it was stopped prematurely the script was pretty much written anyway as Froch gets stronger towards the end of his fights. Its daft to conclude that Groves would win merely because he knocked Froch down earlier on in the fight. If I recall Froch got back to his feet and continued on with the fight.

I'm not saying groves will win easily but it will be pretty much the same toe to toe fight as the first 6/7 rnds went last time and IMO groves will handle it better especially with the majority of the crowd now behind him, it is impossible to say how the last fight would of ended both fighters were gassed, Froch was having a good rnd and looked strong for sure but in no way should it of been stopped.. Froch normally finishes stronger but he doesn't normally get battered for the first 7 rnds and that takes it out of you.. And your right Froch did get back to his feet I was just pointing out to mr polotelli groves doesn't have a glass chin and it was his hero Froch that got decked!.

Froch got up, he can take a punch and has proven that throughout his career.

The first time Groves got caught in the fight he is all over the shop.

Hes a good boxer but cant take a punch.

Even tho groves had the best of the first 6 odd rounds, I have no doubt froch would of took groves chin off in the later stages. The round that it got stopped in froch was destroying him, froch is known for coming strong in the latter rounds, groves would of been clean out in the next couple of rounds chin on the floor.

Erm he was TKOd last fight and the crybaby can whinge about the ref all he likes he wouldnt have seen out the remaing 90 seconds of the round. He fell into the ropes when he was remonstrating with the ref. He was spent.

Re: George Groves

Sat Jan 25, 2014 9:29 pm

Impossible to tell what would have happened if the ref hadnt stopped it.. Yes groves got caught with a good combination and looked groggy but was far from spent, Froch was battered for the first 6/7 rnds so he would of been knakerd too..

IMO Groves will beat Froch in a rematch.. But unfortunatly its unlikely to happen :ayatollah:

Re: George Groves

Sat Jan 25, 2014 10:09 pm

It was stopped prematurely but Groves was out of it as well so in that sense you could see why the referee did jump in. Froch was recomposed and gets stronger towards the end of fights. He surges and his domination builds as he goes on in fights. Had that went more rounds and Groves had got tagged bad and ended up with serious brain damage the referee would have been called into question. He would have also had to live knowing he could have stopped it sooner and avoided such a thing. The referee did only what he could to avoid such a situation. Froch can land big sledgehammer punches and Groves got cocky and was showing off and got tagged a few times. He was naive thinking that Froch would tire like him and he went all out to KO Froch and get it done with early. He would never win on points because he was gassed and put all his energy into the early rounds. Froch turns it on late in fights and would have done damage to him then.

Yes it was a premature stoppage and I was disgusted at the time but on reflection it was common sense. Groves was going to get seriously punished in the next few rounds as he was blowing air and Froch was on the ascendency. Theres no chance he would have survived when bigger men have fallen due to his power and grit late on in fights. Also, when Andre Ward, one of the best fighters in the world and most talented in the world wants no part of Froch in terms of a true scrap it tells you everything about how dangerous he is. Ward likes to mix it up and against lesser opponents will show off and will put on an exhibition yet against Froch he stuck to the game plan which shows the respect he had for him. Froch tried numerous times to drag Ward into a brawl but he was having none of it and stuck to the game plan and produced a masterclass to win by UD.

I cant see Groves winning. What can he do differently to win? Froch will know his power now so will know as long as he survives 6 rounds he has won because Groves has the stamina of Jon Parkin.

I called that fight correctly as well.

You even admitted after that fight you knew nothing about Broner (one of the biggest names in boxing may I add) so that proves you know bugger all so I find the fact you're saying that to others hilarious. You probably know nothing at all about the likes of Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Gennady Golovkin, Lomachenko, Felix Verdejo, Edwin Rodriguez, Vargas, Andrade, Russell Jr, Wilder, Lara, Danny Jacobs, Rigondeaux, etc.

I bet you didn't even know much of Saul Alvarez before his big fight build up with Floyd. Laughable. Nothing winds me up more than pretenders who think they know about boxing. If I aint got a clue about something, cricket for example, I don't talk about it because I have nothing of value to add to that specific subject. I just listen to those that do. This guy is running around the forums telling others they don't know shit when neither does he.

Daya, Polo is correct. Winners get up and see out fights and keep battling. Groves head was gone and anyone can see that. Yes it was a premature stoppage but Groves was spaced out. Froch gets stronger towards the end of fights too.

This forum is full of people who rated the likes of Rees and Cleverly yet both got served by Kovalev and Broner as I predicted. British boxing is on its arse but people continue to pay and the promoters, clever promoters may I add, keep churning out B grade fighters who will get them a few pay days and then they move on. Its nothing more than passing them along a boxing supply chain.

The poster above who i've just ripped apart based on previous statements was one of those fanboys who laps up the media hysteria and pays for Sky Box Office and gets all excited about it. They believe the hype. I don't mate because I see things for what they are. British boxing is far behind that in other parts of the world and you only have to look at the belt distribution in most divisions to see that. Its not hard to see at all for most boxing fans who take an active interest in the sport yet the pretenders as they're called by those on the boxing forums (basically plastics in football language) haven't a clue. Thats why the likes of Warren and Hearn can dish them up plates of second rate boxers and they keep paying for it and buying into all the crap.

Re: George Groves

Sun Jan 26, 2014 1:33 am

British fighters hold 6 belts out of a possible 107 including Ring Magazine.

Thats 1 in 18 roughly.

Froch x 2 at WBA Unified and IBF - Super Middleweight
Murray x 1 at Interim - Middleweight
Burns x 1 at WBO - Lightweight
Quigg x 1 at WBA at Super Bantam, Junior
Hall x 1 at IBF at Bantam

There are too many belts to begin with (whole different argument I don't want to get into) and we have 6 of a possible 107 on offer and most of them aren't even the top and most respected belts on offer. We're a nation producing B rate fighters and its as simple as that yet this country used to be a proud boxing nation. It should be back in schools and something we pride ourselves on as a good sport.

America has 20 and most of them are in top divisions and most competitive - Danny Garcia, Floyd, Mikey Garcia, Peter Quillin, Hopkins, Andre Ward, Andrade, Porter, Bradley, Peterson, Broner, Figueroa.

Floyd has 5 belts himself
Garcia has 3 belts himself

Those 2 fighters together have more belts as the whole of the UK and more prestigious and worthy belts.

Britain is no longer a top boxing nation and we do not compete enough at world level in the respected divisions.

Froch is the highest hope we have until Vitali and Wlad retire then British heavyweights will have a chance in a weaker division. He still cant cope with Ward and Ward is a class above him. Murray has no chance vs Golovkin and would get obliterated. He lost on points vs Martinez and Golovkin will just destroy the whole division like its nothing.

Don't even bring up the population argument because in a smaller country like ours talent should be easier to find and cater our resources towards. Loads in the USA are training in ghetto gyms in the likes of Brooklyn etc. and living the street life whilst ours are getting professional training in olympic style gyms because of the health and safety nonsense in this country.

Cuba has a population of 11 million people yet has 7 belts and one of the most promising fighters on the rise in Erislandy Lara so the population stuff is a myth thats used by British boxing fans in a state of delusion.

If it was down to population then China would be dominating and throwing out boxers for fun yet they have 1 world champion in the flyweight division which further puts that argument to bed.

Britain is a second rate boxing nation now.
