' Solskjaer quotes from press conference '

Friday 24th January 2014.

Looks like we should expect some more players next week :ayatollah:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will at last shift his transfer focus to the Premier League after confirming yet another Norwegian arrival to Wales in Jo Inge Berget.

Unsurprisingly, Berget is a former Molde FK player who helped Solskjaer achieve much managerial success in Scandinavia.

The Bluebirds boss has already brought in two of his ex-charges, Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli from the continent.

And while admitting the trio were signed for the long-term, Solskjaer promised the import of more Norwegians would be put on hold to allow for some experienced legs to come in.

"I have thought long and hard about bringing Norwegian players in", he told a press conference relayed by TV2.

"These three I am hundred percent sure can play in the Premier League. Maybe not tomorrow, but in the long term, I am one hundred percent sure.

"But next week I will try to bring some players with Premier League experience."

Berget's contract with Molde was set to expire in the summer, and the former Udinese striker is all set to become a Cardiff player now.

His medical is understood to have taken place yesterday, with Solskjaer adding: "He knows the way I want to play. He's strong, intelligent, smart, scored against England in the U21 European Championships, and will do well for us."

I'm all for building for the future, but surely it would have been better to bring in some Premiership experience first to improve our squad and then bring in his Norwegian youngsters for the future afterwards? I'm not complaining about Eikrem mind as he looks a good player who is good enough to improve us now. It's nice to hear OGS won't be going over the top with his Norwegians.

Not having a dig at your reply but I think long term it makes a lot of sense, if we go down and bearing in mind we stand bottom of the league with over half way of the season gone these players will prove invaluable in their worth in the Championship as we will lose the likes of Caulker, Medel, Marshall, Etc but with a few shrewd editions we would have a decent chance of getting promoted back to the Premiership :ayatollah:

sorry mate but I don't get this post at all. I don't think it was a case of chasing the Norwegians first or vice versa. It's just a case of these players being easier to tie up due to their relationship with solskjaer and his agent. It was always gonna take more time to get players with no attachment to him. As long as we see 4 players in by next week which I'm sure we will, there's no problem.

I agree with that and like I said, I'm all for building for the future. I just think OGS should have gone for experience first to help us in our next few games before bringing in his Norwegian youngsters with potential. If we had brought in an experienced player first instead of one of his Norwegians, this one experienced player could have made the difference to helping us pick up a result, although that's hardly likely at Man City away of course!

Perhaps the other players the club are trying to get are just taking longer? :thumbright:

Or do you think OGS has gone "nah don't bother with those experienced players, I want some home boys in first to feel the love" - all in Norwegian of course??

Yeah maybe some other targets have taken longer, the Norwegian deals were quick as they all wanted to play for Ole. It seems we are getting close to other non-Norwegian signings now so fingers crossed!

We have paid next to nothing on the 3, makes sense to bring them in now. It's not as if it's delayed any other transfers.
