Ole not thinking outside the box ?

Fri Jan 24, 2014 10:11 am

Got to be honest I'm not impressed with the players we are being linked with. Either Norwegian or ex man utd, not really showing a broad scouting system.is Ole showing nativity here ?

Not really sure what you can expect at the moment, I doubt Molde had a large scouting network - he's using his own connections to see what he feels will be best, can't fault the man for that. As someone else said in another thread (sorry forget who/thread) he'll be casting a larger net once the summer comes around.

As far as thinking outside the box - I would think hitting up Norwegian talent would be very outside the box if OGS wasn't Norwegian ;)

Tend to agree. It's fairly obvious, though, that the existing squad will struggle to keep us up, so nothing to lose, really. Just hope that OGS's judgement is good, and that we have enough time to turn things around. We all need to pull together now. Relegation scrap. It's been a while since we had one!

He needs players that know how he works and how he wants to play. It will help our current squad adapt

He's got 5 months to keep us up, He's looked at the squad and come to the same conclusion as most of us on here that it just isn't good enough. Olé knows how he wants to play and perhaps what's needed to keep us up so he goes and buys players that he KNOWS can play the way he wants and give us a fighting chance at staying up. He hasn't spend a massive amount of money so far and it's a calculated gamble but one which I think is going to pay off !!

not much time to keep us up, so I thought he would have gone for more established players ?

I am with you Chris...I feel that times like this would call for some premiership experience and one or two old heads..
we shall see..lets hope Ole proves us wrong ..but I don't see us surviving :(

That doesn't work in short time left, and are they good enough will they fit ole style play? Think ole going about it right way but time will tell.

What estabilished players? The same journeymen tripe that get relegated every year going from club to club like QPR signed last year?

Any estabilished Prem players are either a) Not looking to leave their current club or b) Way overpriced or c) Way out of form. To be fair Hull have done ok with Long and Jelavic but really their goal scoring form is failry rubbish recently.

At least we have not spent massively on transfer fees and the players coming in will not be on massive wages. Also so many players coming in at once take time to adapt, the bonus of all these guys having worked with OGS and played with each other is that they will feel much more comfortable in their surroundings and settle faster. Also being young they should be itching to make an impression, not some journeyman here to pick up a paycheck.

Look at last season. Villa had a team of inexperienced kids who were hungry to make an impression. They copped a few hammerings but they stayed up. QPR had a team of experienced professionals on big wages. They went down.

January transfer window is always tough. Olie is clearly covering all the basis by making sure he gets in some new faces who he knows from previous experience.

He's getting them on the cheap so that doesn't stop him from still looking for even stronger players for the next week.

At least we'll have some new faces in the bag. As the window comes to a close far too many clubs panic and just get in any old crap just so they can feelthat they've strengthened.

Olie is probably playing a really canny game. Players you know have to be better than panic buys or no new players at all.

I think he knows what he's doing.

Ole is going with what he knows, maybe he should have pushed the boat out and gone for Demba B, jack Rodwell come to mind ?

:sleepy2: :sleepy2: :sleepy2: It's not like he's got a massive budget to use, what's wrong with using the contacts he has just to solidify us for the time being? We had the best chance in years to solidify our team and make ourselves like Southampton but we pissed it up the swanny didn't we

Demba Ba won't be allowed on loan with Torres out injured.

Rodwell's wages would be restrictive and his injury history is suspect but he is a quality player. I would love us to try and get Lescott on loan but again Wages are ridiculous for anyone from Man City.
