Realistically, Ross McCormack. I always thought he was a better player than Chopra and I was gutted when we sold him for peanuts.

Rambo if money was no object...
John Charles if I had a time machine...
Chris Burke if I had to choose a realistic target that is still playing... But I'm not 100% sure on that tbh, I'd probably go with no one.

If money was no object Ramsey but I would like to see either Adam Matthews or Ross McCormack back here.

Cant believe no one has said Adam Matthews, we let the kid go on a free and is now playing in the Champions League (All be it for Celtic) but none the less a cracking player.

He did cross my mind.
I never understood this love hate relationship I had with him, he was just like a girlfriend. He is really the only player when playing for us that I've ever thought was amazing but shit, my favourite player but my most hated player, and our best player at the same as being our worst player.

On his day he was unplayable when he was with us, remember Sheffield Wednesday in our first season in the CCS, they couldn't handle him all day.
His goal v QPR was something else.

there was a joke ding the rounds.... the best selling item in our club shop was a jay bothroyd tray, capable of carrying 10 mugs.........it was when he was out and we couldnt win a raffle..........i think at the time,we expected too much..

I'll never forget him hobbling off in the Play-off Final half way through the first half, I instantly text my mate saying game over!
I was so angry at him personally, and no one else, at the end of the game for not carrying the rest of the team to victory. So stupid really as he was less to blame than everyone else

Bothroyd was less to blame than anyone else for that game. His calf went so I don't know how anyone could say he bottled it. We went 2-1 up after Bothroyd went off but as always under Jones, we were a soft touch and gave away 2 ridiculous goals. We went ahead twice with brilliant attacking play but threw it away, Blackpool went ahead once from doing the basics and scoring off a set piece and held on. Story of Dave Jones' reign as manager really.

I don't think anyone on this thread suggested he bottled it, but I know loads of people that do think that.
Your right, Mr Jones never had a plan B and it was way too open. However I must say it was fun at times in a masochistic kind of way, but that might just be me.

I wasn't stating that you yourself said he bottled it by the way. Like you said, a lot of people thought he did but I just thought I was one of them things, especially in the sweltering conditions. There was no way any player that day couldn't have been warmed up playing in 100 degree temperatures!
You're right it was fun at times, we were treated to some entertaining football under Jones. Bothroyd, Chopra and McCormack at their best with Koumas in his first loan spell supplying them was great to watch! We had a solid centre back partnerships of Gabbidon and Collins followed by Johnson and Loovens back then as well. It's hard to understand why we failed to go that extra step when you look at some of the players we had back then. I'm not a fan of Dave Jones, but he did majorly overachieve with us considering the lack of resources he was given. But unfortunately, he took us so far and I don't think we would have ever gone that extra step. I honestly think we would have won the FA Cup if he started Ramsey in the final.
