Swansea's Michael Laudrup to leave in the summer regardless of whether they are relegated
Jan 21, 2014 22:31 By John Cross.

League Cup holders' top brass are convinced the Dane will walk if they don't sack him amid poor form, an emergency board meeting and bickering players

Up the Swannee? Laudrup's troops are just three points above the relegation placesClive Rose
Michael Laudrup is heading for the exit door at Swansea this summer – even if the club stay up.

The Swans' hierarchy believe it will be his final season in charge, an that it's just a case of whether the Dane decides to walk away or is pushed.

Swansea have held an emergency board meeting to discuss the growing crisis and Laudrup admitted on Tuesday that the club are facing “dark days”.

Police were called to the training ground after Chico Flores was allegedly spotted threatening Garry Monk with a brick during an amazing bust-up.

There was a boardroom inquest into the row and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is understood to be deeply concerned after the flare-up last Friday.

Swansea’s players are understood to be fed-up with training and results have shown a desperate dip in form which has plunged them towards the relegation zone.

Danish legend Laudrup’s relationship with Jenkins is at breaking point again after the club was last season forced to deny a rift between the pair over transfers and player recruitment.

Laudrup has struggled to balance the Europa League – which he has publicly admitted was a priority and fresh challenge for him – with the Premier League, which the board see as a priority because survival in the top flight comes first.

Ex-Real Madrid star Laudrup was one of the hottest managerial properties around last summer after winning the Capital One Cup, but it's now believed Swansea would even be willing to reduce his £10m buy-out clause if another club comes in.

Laudrup has 17 months left on a contract extended after the Welsh club’s triumph at Wembley last February - it would cost them around £4m to pay him off in the summer.

But if Swansea stay up and do relatively well in the Europa League - they have qualified for the knockout stages but face a two-leg tie against Italian heavyweights Napoli next month - a big club may yet come in for him.

Laudrup hopes new striker Wilfried Bony, who has struggled to adapt to the Premier League since his big money move, can help lift the mood.

He said: “Sometimes you just see dark and not light but when you think everything is negative you have to try and find the positives. The performances of Bony, the way he is adapting to the squad and football, is a light.

“He is getting used to the football here. He is getting more shots on target and apart from scoring goals, his last five or six performances in general have been good.”

Flores has denied threatening Monk with a brick and said he had a “fantastic relationship” with his team-mate.

Monk said: “I have been playing in the professional game for 20 years and training rows are nothing new in a competitive and pressurised environment. Yes, we had words, but at no time was I threatened with a brick by anyone.

“The matter has been resolved and we all remain united, whatever nationality we may be, because we wear the same club colours and that is the most important thing. We are a tight-knit group; we always have been and always will be.”

Monks comment that they remain united, whatever nationality they may be, is a very interesting statement to make. Hmmmmm. I suspect the story has been somewhat blown out of proportion but there certainly appears to be serious trouble developing at the Leprosy Sanatorium.

^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^

It was always Laudrup's intention to go at the end of this season (in fact, he tried to go before this season ;) )

Swansea managers don't tend to last long as a rule, as history shows

They say a week is a long time in politics..can you imagine what TWO caravan off-seasons down The Gower must be like?? :o :laughing6: :laughing6:

How will we cope if we lose a manager?

Re: Bye Mr Laudrup

Wed Jan 22, 2014 7:21 am

Doesn't look like the best time for a club bust up, we know how distracting it is and how many points are lost at a time like this, at least it looks like we are coming out of our problem, with the New man in place, and the owner backing him in the window.

Swansea look like they are just at the resign or be sacked stage, it must be very worrying for them..........

Pmsl. If Malky went there!

That'd put a damper on their attacking play.

Lol

To be fair they have coped a number of times in the past and I have respect for Jenkins for stucking to the blueprint he set out with Martinez and you cannot argue he has done well with his apointments.

That said there is always a risk when change of management and law of the averages says there is a chance next one wont be as succesful as Laudrup or Rodgers.

It's always an interesting debate, do you keep changing the footballing philosophy with each new manager or as Swansea have so far done, keep the same philosophy and bring in a manager to fit in with it?

Having seen him interviewed a number of times then he is definitely about continuity and making the maager fit the philosophy then making the club fit the manager.

I dont ever see him employing a Pulis or a Malky. If Poyet hadnt got the Sunderland job I would have said he would have been their next appointment.

Putting the rivalry to one side, he is a good chairman, that is undeniable.

Surely this was known anyway?

Im surprised he stayed after last season to be honest, although i think the European challenge tempted him. I was in no doubt he would be leaving at the end of this season and not a moment too soon as far as I'm concerned. Never warmed to him and have said my issues with his selections and tactical set up many a time - I am definitely looking forward to a new approach.

It has been a slow but evident decline from the moment of Brendan's departure.

Brendan left when we finished 11th...

The next season we finished 9th and got our first major cup win in our history.

We have been poor for the last 12 months by our standards though and I lay that at the door of Laudrup, his agent and their approach.
