Could we benefit from a formation change?

Mon Jan 20, 2014 11:01 pm

Just wondering if we could be more effective with a formation with three centre backs and 2 wing backs which may then allow them to take up more advanced positions than full backs and either two up front or one drifting something like Bellamy when he came on against West Ham. The problem is we may be exposed for pace at the back.

GK Marshall
CB Caulker
CB Medel
CB Turner
LW Noone
RW Theo
CM Ekrim
CM Mutch
CM Gunnerson
Behind front two - Bellamy
CF Campbell

Think under Ole we will see different formations on times.

I think its just going to cone down to who takes the chances best us ir the opposition. Its literally a gamble thats hiw competitive it is.
im pretty sure if we go to attacking though teams will play through us and we will conceed to many

Noone doesn't track back enough to play that position, as illustrated when he lost the ball against Man City when they scored.

Given Cardiff's current centre backs, a 5-3-2 / 3-5-2 formation would be suicide. It's a very very good formation, but it needs better and faster centre backs, as well as at least one ball playing centre back (has composure, ball control, some dribbling and technical ability as well as a great passing foot and overlook)

I think the hopes of playing 5-3-2 at this club is equal to signing someone like Chiellini.

Personally I'd like to see, and think we'd benefit from:

GK-Marshall
RB-French Kev
CB-Hudson
CB-Caulker
LB-Super Kev/John
CDM- Medel
LM-Whitts/Bellers (Providing he's match fit)
CM/CAM-Kim/Eikrem
RM-Noone
ST-Campbell
ST-Cornelius(again,providing he's fit)

We need a solid wall at the back and have 2 up top. Medel can handle the CDM position himself, having Whitts alongside him is a waste of his talents.
