Cardiff City star Magnus Wolff Eikrem set for full debut at Bolton as Norwegian eyes starting spot against Manchester United FC

Cardiff's new midfield star is determined to show what he can do in the FA Cup clash and earn a place in the starting XI at Old Trafford
New signing Magnus Wolff Eikrem should make his full Cardiff City debut in the FA Cup on Saturday – and make a case for an Old Trafford return.
Eikrem, 23, had his first taste of British football in the youth and reserve teams at Manchester United and he will be back at the Theatre of Dreams next Tuesday when City make their first visit there since St David’s Day 1975.
“Playing at stadiums like the Etihad and Old Trafford has been a dream of mine since I was a young boy,” said Eikrem, a late substitute in the 4-2 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday.
“I’ve had a taste and I have to show I’m good enough to get into the starting line-up.
“I want to carry on playing at the same level next season and you find out a lot more about yourself playing teams like Manchester City.
“They have some of the best players in world football and that sheer quality can be tough to cope with.”
Eikrem’s experience of playing in World Cup qualifiers for Norway and the Dutch First Division for Heerenveen this season has toughened him up for what lies ahead for City in the next few months.
City slipped to the bottom following their defeat at the Etihad Stadium and the Bluebirds have now picked up only one point from the last 18 available.
“We are bottom but we have a belief among the players that we can climb the table,” said Eikrem.
“Playing United at Old Trafford is another difficult match, but if we play the way we had during some parts of our performance at the Etihad we will pick up points over the next month or so.
“Then we can reflect on where we are at that stage.”eikrem
Molde-born Eikrem has made two cameo appearances since joining from Heerenveen in a £2m-plus transfer upon Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival.
He joined Manchester United from his hometown club on his 16th birthday in 2006, playing for the Red Devils’ team which reached the FA Youth Cup final in 2007 and progressing under Solskjaer’s reserve-team at Old Trafford.
They won a Premier Reserve League and Cup double as well as Manchester and Lancashire Senior Cups.
After five years with United, Eikrem returned to his native Norway where he made 68 appearances for Molde FK, scoring six times.
The next step for Eikrem was to make his international debut in a 1-1 draw with Denmark and move to Heerenveen last August.
“It’s a massive step up from the Dutch Eredivisie, but I think I can get us playing,” he said.
“I know I’ll have to work hard because there are a lot of good players at Cardiff, but I’m sure I’ll adapt.”
“The manager (Solskjaer) did so well with Molde with those two titles and the cup.
“He has been influential for my development and I really want that to continue with Cardiff.”

Personally I think Ole having the Newcastle Cup game and beating them, fair Play and then having Bolton is perfect for Ole to get to know his players and all his squad, he can experiment and at the same time knowing he is putting them in proper first team games unlike the Development games, Ole has nothing to lose and can only gain from these FA CUP games.

yeah definetly, like in malkys first season I believe the league cup run gave us a sound base for promotion the next season.
Bolton lost 7-1 on the weekend, what could possibly go wrong

A cup run is just what we need. Its been pretty much a week between games all season. Nothing like the championship, felt like we were playing every 3/4 days.
More games right now the faster Ole gets his best team.
The Wolff looks the part, quality player.

Why does Terry Phillips use the word "Star" when mentioning Eikrem? - he's not been here a tomato season and not had the chance to prove himself a "star" or otherwise yet.
