EIKREM HAILS SQUAD BELIEF
Monday 20th January 2014
City midfielder enjoying Premier League life
" It's been a dream of mine my whole life "
We had belief and chances ourselves which are always hard to come by against Manchester City."
Magnus Wolff Eikrem
January signing Magnus Wolff Eikrem has hailed the belief that the Cardiff City squad showed against Premier League title challengers Manchester City last weekend.
The Bluebirds eventually succumbed to stubborn defeat at the Etihad Stadium, but despite the result there were plenty of positives to take including a second appearance for the Norwegian International from the bench since signing from Dutch club Heerenveen.
Speaking after the match on Saturday, Eikrem said: “After a while we started creating something - we had belief and chances ourselves which are always hard to come by against Manchester City.
“After our equaliser, despite them taking the lead again I felt that we were a bit on top of them and looked like possibly getting the score to 2-2 in the second half. Then they scored of course and it became a different game.
“We'll always have hope and if we play like we did in parts of the game today I'm sure we'll get some points.”
The 23-year old midfielder has impressed when coming on as a substitute in City’s last two encounters against West Ham United and Manchester City, with the Bluebirds’ new number 15 enjoying the test of Barclays Premier League football.
“That's what you want to be doing as a footballer,” said Eikrem. “You want to be playing against players like those at Manchester City because then you know where you're at and what you need to work on.
“I'm really enjoying playing in the Premier League, it's been a dream of mine my whole life and hopefully I can contribute even more in the coming games.”

I've got no doubt it will happen and he makes me a lot more optimistic about the rest of the season. I hope Daelhi will come good for us too

Ole seems to rate him quite highly, and also from what the Norwegians have said about him i think he will come good

Those of us who have seen Eikrem and Daehli the last few years will come to a conclusion that Eikrem hasn't really been what we expected of him playing for the national team. That being said, the national team has been crap the last decade and with a dinosaur of a coach he wasn't really fitting in. However, after a new possession oriented head coach was selected, he has shown a little bit more of what one can expect from Magnus - determination, hard-working and an eye for something out of the ordinary.
When it comes to Daehli, this guy has been a revelation. He came to Molde last summer and was influential in every game. He gained his chance on the national team and was the best player on the pitch. If you ask most Norwegians who have seen both of these play; most people would say that Daehli has the superb x-factor that comes once every 20-30 years, Eikrem posesses a more solid, professional "attitude" - this step might also be good for him to get the last 5-10 % he needs to be a top, top, top midfielder. Daehli has this phenomenal ruthlessness, he doesn't care whether he's taking on Rio Ferdinand or some random kid with his friends; he is just a kid who loves football and you can tell by looking at him on the pitch.
Therefore; the reason Eikrem gets his chance "first" is probably because of his stability, but mark my words; when you have first seen Daehli on the pitch, you never want him to leave. I grew up with the generation of Solskjaer and other Norwegians who invaded the Premier League in the 90's (Berg, Johnsen and Nevland playing for United, Bjornebye and Heggem for Liverpool, Flo at Chelsea etc.) - Daehli is a far more exciting prospect than these guys ever were - in my personal humble opinion.
Hopefully you'll all see on Saturday what a few of us has been seeing for a few years now; Daehli is outstanding.

Wow. He sounds excellent. Can't wait to see Daehli play. Thanks for your input.
