Man City non-local supporters

Mon Jan 20, 2014 1:47 pm

As we pulled into the services on Saturday we parked next to a double decker bus full of Man City plast....I mean fans, on their way to the game.

The bus would tend to suggest that they were coming from the Cheltenham area.

I did wonder whether in their days in the third tier whether they would have had fans travelling from all over the country to watch them play?

Are Man City the new Man United?

A little judgemental

We have/had supporters clubs in London etc

IMO you should support your local.
But the revenue the "plastic" brings to clubs including ours cannot be ignored.
The more we have the better.
Certain fans feel they are useless as soon as the success is away so are they. But that's nothing new, especially to a club like ours.
Look at Arsenals attendances at Higbury and Emirates, fans will pay to see success,if they cannot get it on their doorstep then they will travel to see it.

Always have and always will be this way.

Anyone who thinks the top clubs get 70,000 hardcore die hards are delusional.

People move around, not everyone sticks to the local areas all there lives. Kids then support who their folks support so a clubs fan base grows away from the orginal area.

My family home with my wife is in shropshire now, we have a house in kew and I work mon-fri in Den Haag , but I will always be a cardiff fan. When I have kids they will be cardiff fans. But I don't ever see myself living in south wales again.

But will always travel back for games whenever I have a chance to see us at home.

I live in London and get to as many games as possible, this doesn't make me a plastic. I've done this for 3 years, before that I had a season ticket for 13 years. Before that I was only allowed to go with my father who supported Leeds but took me to as many cardiff games as we could afford. I don't consider myself to be plastic, in fact this season is the season I've seen the least amount of games.

I wouldn't call someone a plastic for watching the team they support when their not from the teams area at least they go and support their team

Ridiculous thread.

I remember when they used to have 35k plus in the third tier whereas we barely got 6k at times. If anyone is the plastic club it's us.

You are right Jeff. Just like Spurs, Villa, Leeds, Forest, Wolves, Everton, Newcastle and West Ham. Those clubs aren't the most successful but have a supporter in most towns and villages across the country.

They have had a supporters club running coaches for over thirty years from Cheltenham and Gloucester

Seen a kid in Treforest with a Man City top on the other week ffs.

I love talking to Leeds fans these days, You know the ones who picked the best team in the Premier and now play in the Championship, They all say the same thing "haven't been to a game for a few years" and "Used to go up all the time", Of course you did.

Man City were not out of the top flight for long and bounced back up pretty quickly. Had they stayed in the lower leagues like Cardiff did for 50 years then lets be honest their crowds would have fell off massively.

At the end of the day its up to them who they support
If we get relegated there will be 17k at our home matches next season

Point is though, that Man City fans are forever going on about how their fans all come from Manchester. Truth is, they are no different to every other club.

I was talking to some man city fans before the game and said its a myth that they outnumber united fans in Manchester. It's about 50-50.

Cheltenham blues have been around at least 40 years.
