Monday 20th January 2014.
Bolton have been priced out of a move for Cardiff City striker Joe Mason after the
Bluebirds quoted a price of £2million.
Mason and Bluebirds team-mate Kevin McNaughton have both impressed while on loan at the Reebok Stadium this season and Trotters boss Dougie Freedman is keen to land them permanently.
However, the Scot's attempt to sign Mason looks set to fall flat after Bluebirds officials told him it will take an offer of £2million to secure his services.
That is too much for the cash-strapped Trotters, who could now turn their attention to bringing in Sunderland striker Danny Graham on loan, should his spell with Hull come to an end.
McNaughton's move to the Reebok could be much more straightforward with Cardiff only wanting a nominal fee for the experienced central defender.

Just out of interest, who at the club would have set this figure. Is it the manager, the Chairman or the tea lady?

Maybe but he didnt get a look in last season either under Malky.
He at least needs to go out on loan.

I would take 2 million for him but add in a first refusal buy back clause , and a sell on clause where we get a percentage on any fee if he makes it big .
In all honesty we are at the moment holding his career up , he needs a full season at championship level and I can't see him featuring permanently for us within the next two years , by which time he will be out of contract and leaving for free .
Let him go then IF he makes it get him back !

I personally feel 1.5m for Mason is a good price. None of us are sure if he can perform week in, week out at Championship level and we should take the 1.5m to give us additional funds to bring in someone better this month.

Think Mason is overpriced at 2m and I would be surprised if anyone came in for him at that price.
Realistic figure 1.2 -1.5m tops.

not a regular last year.. nowhere near the team this year.. his value can only go down......2million is crazy money ..and i dont think keeping players in case we get relegated is a good idea either, but its not my money

Didn't we pay 50k for him? Good profit if we did!

Looked the part in malkys first season but he obviously needs game time.I still think hes got a big future ahead of him and hope we don't sell to be honest

Agree entirely. A perfect fit for any championship team looking to bag some goals. Very composed and can finish, is also fairly young. Worth 2M IMO

35 appearances and 15 goals, we need to hold onto him and send him out on loan, we may well need him next year. With the promise he has and goals scored, he is worth £

2 million

Have to agree. Us getting promoted wasn't good for Mason. He needs games. Either involve him or sell him.

Need to drop our asking price. He looks a shell of the player from 2 years ago.
He was poor today

looking at the original article, I dont think selling kev would be a wise move. He may not be an automatic 1st choice but he has been solid since coming back in at Arsenal and not done much wrong. He would probably be expensive to replace given his ability plus his commitment levels can not be questioned.

2 million would be good for mason
