Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: My plan to turn Bluebirds into top 10 Premier League team
18th Jan 2014

The Cardiff boss says, with an ambitious owner behind him, he can make Cardiff City one of the top teams in the Premier League

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the toughest job in football today trying to stop the Manchester City goal machine – but he can see a time when Cardiff will be challenging for Premier League glory with the best teams in the land.

Solskjaer’s immediate aim is to keep the Bluebirds in the top flight but he also believes City possess a bright and successful future.

“Our aim is to be a top 10 club in the medium to long term and build from there,” said Solskjaer, who believes his partnership with club owner Vincent Tan can produce progress which will see Cardiff in the top half of the table.

“Vincent Tan is a winner who wants all his businesses to be successful and in the short-term it’s important we stay in the Premier League.

“When I say top 10 that’s in the medium to long term and who knows in the long, long term?

“Of course, we have Swansea to challenge with, but we are the capital city.”

Tan has told Solskjaer there is money available to add to the signings of Norwegian midfielders Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli in the January transfer window.

“He has reassured me we are looking to strengthen if the right people are available,” said Solskjaer. “It’s not that we have X amount of money, my job is to find value for money and put it to him. He has been very open to discussions.”

First, though, Cardiff must deal with on-song Manchester City who have scored 38 goals in winning all 10 league home games and have netted 99 times in all competitions this season.

“When you go to places like the Etihad or Old Trafford you are going to be tested against some of the best players in the world, let alone Europe,” said Solskjaer. “But we have our own standards to live up to as well and Cardiff defeated Manchester City at home.

“We will need to ride our luck and have the ball drop our way at times, but bigger surprises have happened in the world of football. We go there with a mind-set of having a go and taking something from the game. You have to. Our aim is to be a top 10 club and if we want to achieve that we have to go to these places and take something.”

You need both short term and long term plans to succeed. Ole clearly has the brain of a visionary. Good stuff as long as he's backed and the team perform.

You're easily pleased. Where's the vision? What formation? What style? Who are the spine on which this vision rests? What players? Youth requirements? Surely that is visionary?

Have a bit of respect for Malky instead of jockeying anyone who Tan parachutes in.
