Fri Jan 17, 2014 8:39 pm

CARDIFF City left-back Andrew Taylor has had a calf operation and is ruled out for almost a month.

Taylor has had surgery on the calf problem which has troubled him at times this season and Bluebirds manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says: “He has had an operation and will be out for at least a month.
“It will be two or three weeks before he can start training again.”

Declan John has done as well as any of them this season.

Bit of a blow. He is no where near as bad as people make out. Only struggled when whitts played in front of him.

If we can get better then great. Left backs are hard to come by tho.

we need to bring someone else in in my opinion
As great as it is to see young welsh talent coming through,i don't think john is ready to play week in,week out in the premiership

Gutted. Taylor was going to be the next Gareth Bale in my opinion. He was just hitting the peak in his career. NQAT.

Andrew Taylor is a better player than people acknowledge and unfortunately for him one of the many whipping boys. I don't think we've had a better LB in the 14 years I've been a CCFC fan, but that isn't really that big a statement. But he is too conservative in possession at this level, especially when lacking confidence which is much of the time. If if he is to improve he needs to be better going forward and bolder with the ball.

I am happy having him as a back up LB for now if we are playing at Premier League level. Ideally John would get a loan and playing time at an upper Championship club at this stage. But obviously he should not be farmed out with our squad as it is. Given Taylor's injury status, he should probably stay put now for this season...

Personally he was rightfully dropped, he was dire in the games he last started.

Exactly. Cowie was a scapegoat, then Taylor, and now Whittingham.

I think he's generally pretty consistent, but the step up to the Premier League is challenging. As you say, clubs are always looking to improve on what they have, but left-backs are a rare breed.
