' VELIKONJA ASKED TO JOIN FK SARAJEVO '

Thu Jan 16, 2014 3:38 pm

Thursday 16th Jan 2014.

Just spotted this on the Sky Sports transfer feed...

"Slovenia striker Etien Velikonja is Cardiff's forgotten man, having barely featured for the Welsh club since joining on a four-year deal from Maribor in summer 2012. Now he's been asked to go to FK Sarajevo - the Bosnian club recently acquired by Vincent Tan - on loan with a view to a permanent move."

He'll be leaving Cardiff to join Sarajevo on loan, the other club that Vincent Tan owns.

Tan became the owner of Bosnian club Sarajevo in December, not really something that was very highly publicised was it? The first player to make the move between his two clubs will be Velikonja, according to their director of sport.

Abdullah Ibrakovic has been quoted as telling Dnenvi Avaz: "Cardiff's manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave the green light for a loan, just like the player's agent.

"Now the ball is on the striker's side. If he does come, he will be a great replacement for our best striker Nikola Komazec who just left us."

With just four first team appearances for Cardiff since he arrived from Maribor back in 2012 I don't think that he'll be a player that'll be missed too much, many would've already forgotten about him!

OGS has enough talent ahead of him currently at the club, with other striking arrivals still possible this month as well.

Makes sense to be honest. Its a clever way of Tan being able to dump our dead wood.

They're challenging for the title I think so it'd be a good signing for them and he'd probably tear the league apart. Should go there at least to put himself in the shop window

I doubt he wants to live in Bosnia though.

Things haven't really worked out for Etien Velikonja since he came to Cardiff, but he's close to getting a chance to get his career back on track as he's looking likely to become the next player to be moved on this month.

He'll be leaving Cardiff to join Sarajevo on loan, the other club that Vincent Tan owns.

Tut tut Mr A.
Etien is un sellable. No game time, and at least 7th choice striker for a struggling premier side before gestade left.
Campbell, Peter, Maynard, corner, gestede, mason -then we have Healy.

Only a bad manager would come out and distance himself from an existing, out of form player.

Is Tan just moving money around the continent?

Another dud signing from The Malky and Moody Show  How much money of Tan's have they actually wasted during their time here. :?:

Malky Mackay's programme notes for the pre season friendly v Newcastle Utd on the 11th August 2012 read;

"Etien Velikonja is a Slovenian international striker who I have followed for more than two years, & i didn't hesitate to sign when the chance came up in July. He is bright, sharp & quick & I'm sure he'll be an important part of our squad in the next nine months".

The meal I had in Giovanni's in town after the game was lush though. ;)

Either way it doesnt potray Malky in a very good light, he either wasted a good amount of money on him or it proves he blantantly lied to the fans and was just a media savvy manager who would say anything to fit.

The deal makes sense though, he isnt getting a look in and he is to light weight for this league. I doubt the Bosnian league is so physical.

I will tell you what I know Malky wanted him at Watford and when he came to Cardiff Malky felt he needed a better class of player than did before, Tan went ahead and bought him, this came from one of Malky's Senior back room staff and at the time when they bought him, not months later. So Malky was not going to argue with Tan or go against him.
All ask yourselves, why did Malky virtually not play him, same with Robert Easrnshaw.
I can only tell you what I was told at the time and personally I believe its true.

You may be right about Eti Annis, but Earnie was given a few run outs and was offside far too often. When Malky adopted a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 formation, that meant the end of Earnie, but Eti was only given the one real chance, if you want to call it that, which was for the first 45 minutes at Hull in our last game of last season!

You can only say what your told Annis but it does seem a bit convienent that Malky spoke about watching him at Watford. Its not like Tan would have just plucked his name from no where and just decided to sign him. We have a lot of knowledgable people on this form that had never heard of Etien so whats the chances Tan did? seems slim.
