I hit a massive pot hole yesterday and it burst my tire, can I claim the damages off the council?

Wouldn't it been easier to avoid it

It was 5 in the morning and pitch black.

Yes I done the same in Bridgend last year I had to have a wheel and tyre, I claimed the cost back it took time, there was no way I was footing the bill of £220. Take photo's and prove the date it happened

Don't be surprised if the Council try to worm their way out by saying they were not aware of it as it hadn't been reported to them. There was a case in the Mail Online or The Mirror this week where a Council were proved to have lied that they hadn't had a report when in fact they had and they had turned down the original claim.

They tried the same with me it took 4 months to sort out, just got to keep on to them
