Cardiff are reportedly targeting West Ham's Ravel Morrison and Man United's Wilfried Zaha as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks to recruit players for the start of his tenure.
Solskjaer coached Morrison at Man United and so has first hand knowledge of his capabilities as well as being keen to use the connection to lure the youngster to Wales.
However Cardiff will face competition from Fulham for Morrison, with Rene Meulensteen - another man to coach the player at United - confirming his side had had a bid rejected for the midfielder.
Morrison currently has 18 months remaining on his £15,000-a-week contract with the Hammers but that would have to be raised to £60,000 per week should the London side receive a bid of £10m for the player due to a clause in his contract, meaning the club could be tempted to cash in on the player if a bid of more than £5m was offered - according to reports.
Meulensteen confirmed that his bid had been turned down when questioned on if he'd bid for Morrison.
"Yes we did. It got knocked back, it got rejected so we need to review it and move on.
"I left it with Alistair Mackintosh [the chief executive]. I've explained how I think about the situation so we'll have to wait and seen what happens. I make my desires clear and then leave it with those people to deal with it. We will review it, because I don't know the ins and outs about how it has been rejected."
Meanwhile Solksjaer's United links are thought to make him the favourite to take Zaha on loan, should David Moyes agree to let him leave this January.

Agent just doing a come get me call for Zaha, obvious to see.

Makes a lot of sense for Man U to keep him as long as possible during the transfer period to have a clear picture of their roster.

Not to mention it could help get a bit more out of him if another team or two jump in the mix.
