Cardiff chiefs have certainly not given up hope of signing the full-back despite his agent claiming he will stay at the champions

Manchester United full back Fabio Da Silva

Cardiff City are hoping to land Manchester United target Fabio da Silva – despite his agent claiming that he will be staying at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

The Brazilian left-back had been linked with joining his former United reserve-team coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the new Cardiff manager, before the end of the January transfer window.

Solskjaer refused to comment on speculation linking him with United pair Fabio and Wilfried Zaha last weekend and the plot thickened when Red Devils sponsor Airtel India – India’s leading telecoms company – this afternoon sent out a tweet over a scheduled Q&A session they were holding with Fabio and his twin brother Rafael.

“Unfortunately, Fabio will be joining Cardiff City on loan till the end of season & hence only Rafael will join us for #airtelAskUnited” read the tweet.

However, the tweet was soon deleted amid speculation that talks between Cardiff and United are still continuing.

Earlier, however, Cassiano Pereira, the agent of Fabio and Rafael, told an Italian football website: “I don’t know anything about these stories.

“I think they are just journalistic speculation.

“Today, I say that will remain in Manchester until the end of the season, but in summer it is very likely that they can leave.”

Man Utd blunder reveals Fabio is set to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Cardiff

CARDIFF CITY are hoping to conclude a deal to sign Manchester United defender Fabio on loan for the rest of the season.

Despite no official confirmation from either club, a tweet from one of United's sponsors stated a loan deal was in place for the young Brazilian full-back to join former Old Trafford hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in south Wales.

New Bluebirds boss Solskjaer has already been busy in the transfer market bringing in former United youngsters Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli and is believed to be also keen on a short-term move for winger Wilfried Zaha.

Talks between the two clubs are ongoing and Cardiff are confident Fabio, who spent last season on loan at QPR, will make the switch.

The verified Twitter account of Airtel, United's telecommunications partner on the sub-continent, stated that Fabio would be unable to take part in a planned question and answer session with twin brother Rafael on the social media site because a move to south Wales had been agreed.

The tweet on the @airtelindia feed, which was later deleted, read: "Unfortunately, Fabio will be joining Cardiff City on loan till the end of season & hence only Rafael will join us for #airtelAskUnited".

Fabio is currently suspended following his red-card in United's FA Cup defeat to Cardiff's fiercest rivals Swansea earlier this month.
