Anyone Concerned About The Debt Figures?

Tue Jan 14, 2014 1:31 pm

I'll admit, I'm growing increasingly concerned about the finances at the club. Even though we all loved Malky, it's no secret that a lot of money was spent and some poor decisions were made.

Then in comes Ole - and to be fair, I think its a good appointment as I was impressed with what he's looking to do. The style of play was exciting and we'll put a lot of teams on the back foot with it.

But I'd hate to think what the weekly outgoing in terms of wages are. £45k every week for Cornelius is preposterous and I wouldn't like to think of what was offered to Ole to take this role - especially on an infinite contract (whatever that is).

The squad is only going to get bigger and no there's no chance of recouping any decent money with any players we currently have. With rumours of new players coming in - Doiuf, Zaha, Morisson etc, can you imagine what this will warrant in terms of wages? £2m for Zaha on a 5 month loan - £5m+ for Morrisson (plus wages) and £3m (plus wages) for Diouf.

The thing is at the moment, we'll have to offer a lot of money to attract some of these players, especially being where we are in the table at the moment. I'd love to think that we'll be a PL team next season, but its by no means a forgone conclusion. If we are than happy days, but its an awful big gamble to make.

I looked at QPR last season and I hated the way they were doing business, but I genuinely think that we may be slightly worse than them.

I genuinely hope we have some good youngsters in the ranks as I honestly get more excited at an exciting homegrown youngster rather than a big money signing. Declan John is a great prospect and can be a great player for us, and I've also heard good things about young Curtis Watkins on this board recently. Plus I really hope that OGS gives Kadeem Harris a look in when he's over his injury - one of the most exciting youngsters I've seen in a long time.

What I'm trying to say is, the recent debt figures shocked me and its going to get worse. Tan is loaning money to the club at a premium and has still not backed up his promise of a Debt to Equity agreement. Until then my concern will remain and even then I dont think we'll really be out of the woods. I dont really know what Tans plans are for the future, but I really hope that it pays off in terms of financial security etc.

Am I the only one concerned by this?

We turn debt into equity we fecked anyway cause Tan only wants to do it to float us on the Asian stock market. At that point onwards were fecked because our club more at risk than we are now. Our only real hope of getting really debt free is surviving the prem for a season or 2 and rake in the tv money.

I actually agree with this. It would be bad if he was the sole stakeholder at the club. It would be pure business minded, rather than being treated as an institution like the German clubs. Not that we are now tbh.

We are qpr mark II. City have done everything I hoped they wud not do, spend big on player in both transfer windows, pay big wages and sign a load of expensive flops. If we go down which is highly likely ww will be stuck with these flops on huge wages. Imo we are worse than qpr and if tan decides to jump ship and not stick with us like fernandez at qpr, then we r royally fukt.

Just worry about your family and friends. No football club worries about you anymore so you should treat them with the same respect.

Someone from the prem or FA for that matter really should look at the business model of the German league and follow example. Football should always be about the fans, not the amount of wages and transfers be all massively debt onto our clubs. It's turning far too much into a millionaires playground rather than for the sport that it is, might as well churn out a F1 team cause that sport is just as bad.

Ian, thats al 90% of the fans are concerned about, at the time they just want to hear names and big spending, them when it goes tits up with high debts and the club are not winning every week only then do they complain and find a scape goat.

Can't see the point of worrying about something in which you have no control over!

Family matters are far more important!

your spot on mate..................ive heard so much shit over the last 40 years it really isnt worth the worry...........i remember Goldstone saying we needed an average crowd of at least 19,000 to be sustainable in 1974..............it was 35years before we achieved it,yet we are still here............since then,we have had a rollercoaster ride up and down divisions, hair brain schemes, and enough 5 year plans to take us into the nxt millenium..
what ever will be will be..........i dont have 1 million let alone a hundred million..so whats the point in worry.
