• Bid of £5m-plus could tempt Hammers
• Bluebirds face competition from Fulham
Cardiff City are interested in signing Ravel Morrison from West Ham United, though they face competition from Fulham for the midfielder's signature.
The 20-year-old is open to either option, due to his Manchester United connections with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and René Meulensteen, the managers of the respective clubs.
Morrison has 18 months left on a contract that currently earns him £15,000 a week. Should West Ham receive a bid of £10m then they would have to sell or raise his salary to £60,000 due to a clause in that contract. If an offer of £5m or more was to be tabled, the east London club might be tempted to cash in.
With Morrison wanting markedly improved terms even to consider committing his long-term future to West Ham, the midfielder may leave in the current window. As Fulham's Meulensteen and Cardiff's Solskjaer were each on the United coaching staff when Morrison was at the club, the prospect of working with either is attractive, especially when he is hoping to make a late run for England's World Cup squad.
It is understood that Fulham are favourites to sign Morrison as Solskjaer has only recently become Cardiff manager so has had less time to work on any prospective deal. United are not interested in taking Morrison back.
While Morrison is nursing a groin problem that has ruled him out of action since 5 January, West Ham hope he may be available to play in the weekend's visit of Newcastle United.

Has bags of potential but could be problematic as thats the reason Man U let him go in the first place. Might be ok now he's away from Manchester though. Would be intresting if he did come.

Quite shocked if West Ham wanna let the guy go, he is obviously hugely talented, just has a terrible attitude and thinks he's a gangster.

Fergie told Allardyce when he signed for WHU that if he gets his head right, you have a real player on your hands. He has the potential to be world class, if he comes hopefully Ole can get the best out of him. Something must have happened behind the scenes for Allardyce to want rid for 5m surely?

West Ham have rejected a bid from Fulham for Ravel Morrison, Rene Meulensteen has confirmed.
Fulham boss Meulensteen was part of Manchester United’s coaching team when Morrison was at Old Trafford and is keen to sign him during this month’s transfer window.
And he believes Morrison wants to make the move.
“We got knocked back – rejected,” said Meulensteen, who suggested that his club were considering making another offer.

Nothing behind the scenes, just what is there for all to read in the Guardian's article - the possibility of paying £60,000 a week. Imagine if a club comes in for him for £10m, he then fails the medical then West Ham get demoted. They are then paying him £60,000 per week in the Championship.

Fulham head coach Rene Meulensteen has confirmed the club have had a bid rejected for West Ham playmaker Ravel Morrison.
The Dutchman told BT Sport’s Ray Stubbs: "We have put in a bid for Ravel Morrison but that got knocked back and we move onto other things."
But he added intriguingly: "Yes, I think he wants to come."
Meluensteen worked with Morrison during his time as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Manchester United.
The Daily Mail reported last week that the 20-year-old was unsettled at Upton Park, with Fulham preparing a £5m bid for the England under-21 star, but Hammers boss Sam Allardyce had denied he was for sale.
Meulensteen, speaking after Fulham's 3-0 FA Cup third-round replay victory over Norwich at Craven Cottage, shown live on BT Sport, said: "Yes, we did make a bid. Yes I think he does want to come.
"He would add pace, power, unpredictability and a real attacking threat.
"I don't know what the situation is now, because that's left with (club director) Alistair Macintosh."

West Ham reject Fulham bid for Ravel Morrison
Fulham head coach Rene Meulensteen has admitted that West Ham rejected a bid from his side to buy Ravel Morrison.
Meulensteen worked with the winger while at Manchester United and the Dutchman is keen to add Morrison to his squad. It is believed that Fulham offered in the region of £4 Million, but it is thought that West Ham want nearer the £10 million mark for the 20-year-old.
However, Meulensteen has not given up hope of securing the signing in January, ‘We got knocked back,’ he said.
‘We need to review it and move on. I left it with (chief executive) Alistair Mackintosh. I’ve explained what I think about the situation so we’ll have to see what happens,” continued the Coach.
“I make my desires clear then leave it to those people to deal with it. We will review it because I don’t know exactly the ins and outs of how it’s been rejected. (Morrison offers) youthfulness, energy, unpredictability, strength. Loads of things.”
Meulensteen said he hoped a deal could be concluded this window but added: ‘We all know it’s very difficult in January transfer window. Why would clubs do business early? They know the longer they wait the higher the price goes.’

West Ham rule out Ravel Morrison transfer in the current window after rejecting Fulham bid -
West Ham have told Ravel Morrison he is going nowhere in the current transfer window.
Hammers co-owner David Sullivan has made it clear that they will run the risk of losing money on his fee in the summer rather than cash in on him between now and next Friday's deadline.
The Upton Park club have knocked back a £4million bid from Fulham for Morrison, even though the England Under-21 international will only have 12 months left on his contract in the summer.
They have decided to take a strong stance and resist any temptation to sell Morrison, in the hope he can help them beat relegation back to the Championship.
