DIOUF DEAL ON VERGE OF COLLAPSE!

Mon Jan 13, 2014 3:17 pm

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's bid to bring his former Molde striker Mame Biram Diouf to Cardiff City is on hold after his club Hannover failed to bring their preferred replacement to the Bundesliga

Cardiff City's striker target Mame Diouf has been told he must stay at his club Hannover 96 after they failed in their bid to bring Chilean frontman Nicolas Castillo to the club.

The Bundesliga outfit had always said they would be prepared to let the former Manchester United and Molde striker leave for South Wales if they signed a replacement.

But after bids to bring the 20-year-old South American from Universidad Católica failed this weekend, manager Dirk Duffner has told Diouf he must stay put.

Reports in Germany say Hannover had agreed terms with Castillo, who has played once alongside Gary Medel in the Chile team, but his club set the transfer fee too high.

That led the manager to keep his Senegalese striker at their winter training camp in Turkey, saying: “We have negotiated long but at the moment Castillo is not coming."

"It does not look good.

“We would be willing to sell Dioufif we get another striker, so for now Mame will stay at the club.”

Not great. Would expect to see us move on to another striker sharpish now.

I suppose this depends on Hannover's financial position, whether they can afford to risk losing him for zilch in the Summer or not!

If they can't afford it, they'll get a replacement in quickly!

Not sure where this is from or when, but Hannover signed a bloke called Artjem Rudnevs a striker on loan from Hamburg a couple of days ago so unless they wanted two strikers to replace Diouf this may well be out of date

This^^^^ Goalscorer should be top of the agenda, never mind left backs and goalkeepers.

Good, give Cornelius a chance.

Could we not just sign him on a pre-contract anyway and force their hand? Isn't his contract up in the summer?

Would like to see him join City.

Rudnevs joined like said above, WalesOnline know f**k all and grab all the glory whenever we do well. If Diouf doesn't join then oh well, Ole will sign someone.

I believe that he's able to sign a pre contract agreement to join in the Summer, but OGS clearly wants new players in to make a difference now!

Since when was 16 goals in 60 games being a proven Premier League goalscorer?

He's proven that he can score 16 goals in 60 Premier League games! :)

To be fair to him, most of those goals were scored during his early days at Everton, so if he was able to reproduce that sort of consistent form again, then I can see why Bruce is after him!

Agree, I do like Campbell but we can't be dependant on him for all the goals. A marksman definitely required.

If we signed him on a pre-contract for nothing, maybe Hannover would then say, ok, we'll take 2 million to let you have him now. If they don't, we move on to another target, we haven't lost anything and we've got a decent player coming in the summer...
