A centre back that be a good partnership with caulker

Sun Jan 12, 2014 8:40 pm

Who does everyone think would make a good partnership with caulker?

Based on today performence I Steven Taylor for someone who been out injured and only played 1 game this season he was quality, Newcastle best player I'd say.

Or

Charlie mulgrew, he a good centre back calm on the ball and he had experience against the best so he would bring us stability at the back and wouldn't crumble under pressure.

I'd like him here but would we be able to pay his wages?

I would love us to sign Kurt Zouma from St Etienne. I'm sure a club of St Etienne's size wouldn't be able to refuse a big bid.

He's only 19 but plays with the maturity and composure beyond his years. He's commanding, strong, pacey, comfortable on the ball, another Caulker really. A future France international for sure and Didier Deschamps has stated he sees him as a future captain for the national side. Unfortunately, Chelsea are currently linked and Newcastle are desperate to beat Chelsea to his signature, so he will probably join his fellow Frenchies at Newcastle.

Zouma is excellent, athletic defender and plays very deep. Got a little bit of pace and good in the air. Strong also.

No chance of Zouma coming here. He's being scouted by top PL clubs.

Man Utd wanted Daehli back but he chose us instead. Zouma might think of us as the next step up for the opportunity to play regularly to develop for his progression.

Reported his attitude isn't great. Think we dodged one there.

Medel centre half in a pair, in this league will not work, he is too short.

Yes he playes there for Chile, but in a back 3 and international football you dont get bombarded in the air like you do the Premier League.

He has played there plenty of times, its not his natural position though. Think we need to be looking at better than him anyway, the guy cant even look after his baby!

I think he would make a decent left back for us as it goes but we got to be looking at signing a better centre back than some guy who has filled in there in the SPL.

Every time I have seen Celtic he has either been left back when Izaguerre isnt fit or in midfield.

He is basically a utility player.

Ambrose and Van Djik are Celtics centre backs and I would love to see us go for Van Djik, he is big, strong and can play as well. Comfortable bringing it out.

However I have just googled him and apparently City and Arsenal are sniffing around him.

Yeah agree with Van Djik, he's an absolute beast of a man!

Possible loan for Martin Kelly at Liverpool. Needs game time after his injury. Went to Euro 2012, I think he looks a good player and is more a cb than rb

Xavi recommended Barcelona to sign Gary Medel after he man to man marked Messi out of the game but we still managed to get him. Like I said, Zouma may not want to make a giant leap to Chelsea to play in their reserves. He might want to join a club who can guarantee him first team football. He's only playing for St Etienne ffs! He would see us as a step up as we're in the Premiership.

Xavier doesn't manage or scout for barca. Great players can't always spot another talent or scouting and recruitment jobs would be sewn up
