Best young player i have seen in a long time

Sun Jan 12, 2014 3:29 pm

I am a birmingham city fc supporter and follow the under 18 side as my nephew is in the team, our star player is Koby Arthur who is destined for big things already being chased by premier teams he made his debut in our first team at 17,we have already turned down decent offers for him,he usually plays in the under 21 side but was played in the under 18 team against cardiff city this week, the cardiff city youngster watkins was pure class and reminded me of a young rio ferdinand, pure class and kept Koby very quiet which i have never seen any young defender do.
I cant understand how your young defender is not out on loan at a championship side getting experience, certainly one whose career i shall follow.

Thanks for you post mate. I'm not familiar with the lad Watkins as I haven't watched the academy this season.
I've watched the development team this season a few times and the future looks good.

We have loaned a few players out this season including Kadeem Harris and Oshijala, who have been having good reviews but we also have a few more promising players coming through like Wharton and O'Sullivan and Healey to name a few.

I will look out for the lad you mentioned. Thanks

I have been watching our under 18 side and the under 21 development side for some time more than i do the first team.
Watkins is one that should have stepped up by now and i have stated on this forum months ago that a number of our clubs youngsters will leave at the end of their contracts.
I speak to parents and family of these kids at matches and there has been a lot of frustration at their lack of progress.
Hopefully Ole can take a look at them and do every thing possible to stop them leaving.
I was at the game agains Birmingham and was told to watch out for the boy Arthur as he is very highly rated ,he is a tall black lad very pacey ,young Watkins read him all through the match and had him under control all through the match.
Sadly i can see him and other leaving if we do not give them opportunitys to progress.
I rate the boy Watkins the best prospect at the club since Ramsey though playing in different positions its hard to compare like for like.
Would not say he is like a young rio ferdinand i would liken him to a young phil jones and like jones i have seen him play in various positions.
He is not our only talented youngster but the pick of the bunch ,it is sad that other fans and managers can spot the talent we have at city when our own coaching staff can not.

Was it Curtis Watkins or Bradley Wickham who marked Koby Arthur? I believe that Wickham played at centre back and Watkins as a defensive midfield player, both are outstanding prospects.

Daniel Watkins was a better footballer, but didn't get scouted. Grangetownblue tell him that, I'm sure he will disagree :)

Hi Zulunick, We have some excellent youngsters coming through the Academy at all ages, Curtis is just one of many. Curtis has been with the Academy 9 years and still learning his trade he is still an apprentice so he cannot be loaned out. Hope you enjoyed the game, I did and I must
say what a friendly bunch, players and management Birmingham was.

Yes Brad Wickham did play centre back and had a great battle with Koby, Curtis was sweeping. There were some outstanding performances all over the field including another young Cardiff boy Tom Burridge (budgie), but it was a very good team performance by all the lads that beat Birmingham 2-1. Well done lads and keep it going for the rest of the season.

Wrong, I am Curtis Watkins grandfather and Curtis father is not a member of this board and do not post on it.
You wanted Curtis to sign up to your agency, but Curtis along with other youngsters turned you down because of your childish antics on this board. How can any parent place their childrens future in the hands of a person like you.
Mark Germain was fantasic with the lads and if Mark was not connected to you, Curtis would have still been with Mark now, not with the same agent as Ashley Cole.
End Off.

I posted on the forum many months ago that our under 18 team had some real talent and we were in danger of seeing our best players leaving the club.
I would rather see the under 18 and under 21 sides play, these boys want to play for the shirt, its not about the money, unlike some of the prima donnas in the first team.

C'mon mate that's a bit unfair. Maybe some of the current squad lack a bit of creativity, flair etc, but one thing you can't throw at them is that they lack fighting spirit. It's the most honest group of lads I've seen down the city for years.

Its the same at most teams money money money some of our lads are the same,i prefer to watch academy sides young men with the desire to make the grade, not just after the money.
We have players just wanting the big pay day odemwingie, medel being 2 examples.

im afraid thats football........and its not such a new thing either, if a club has money it will always go for tried and tested..well 90% of the time. the very first promotion i witnessed , the side with Mike England, and Evans and Alston up front only had about 3 regulars who had come through the ranks..........its the same at every club unless they are skint..and guess what.......when these young boys are given a chance..Mathews,Ledley....aint long before the lure of more cash takes them away...

Hey grand dad .... You've jumped in the net without even trying to hook you ! I was talking to the fella from Birmingham who was the original poster.

BUT you go into some rant with a load of bollocks.

For instance I've never met or had anything to do with your a Grandson , let alone made him an offer. So that's bullshit number one from you.

If you beg to differ I would love to hear or see this offer made, from memory wasn't he a kid who came to a few running sessions laid on ? I wouldn't know fully as I wouldn't have been there. Never met him, never seen him play , and quite frankly not interested , so your ramblings are just that ramblings !!!

To your second point ..... You think a school kid needs an agent ? Don't be silly man. For what exactly to make sure he gets the right paper round money   And then according to you, to go by what goes on a fans football forum where a few lads go to have some banter and a crack ?

But don't let the facts get in the way....... Keep ranting if it makes you feel better.

:old:

I would tell you what would be quality is doing a serious post on here about parents and their behaviour if their kid plays football. You really couldn't make it up in general. I will do it one day, but not now as some may take it wrong in this thread and quite honestly it wouldn't be aimed at them but in general. One day though I will and I think many will find it both interesting and amusing.

So you are one of the bloodsucking leaches aka a football agent? How much have they sucked from this club with the signings of overpaid players cornelius, medel etc? These bloodsuckers also got ledley and others away from us without a fee.

Agents are often at the clubs under 18 matches sadly a part of life but i would expect any of our decent young players would sadly have an agent?
