See his effort at blocking the cross for West Hams goal? He's a defensive liability and doesn't have enough impact going forward. time to drop him?

Totally agree. Pity so many of his adoring fans on here are incapable of giving coherent and rational reasons for his inclusion.

i love whitts, his contribution over many years has been brilliant......a top class prem player he is not...........but here is the reasonable and rational answer..........Malky didnt buy a play maker, Kim and Mutch do make things happen but without Whitts vision........so when your playing a game where your time in opposition half of the field is very limited and mostly deadball, you really need some1 with very good delivery, which he does posses , interesting that Oles first signing is a play maker

He has more assists than any other city player................ does that count as a reason? :?

He is not Steven Garrard, but nor are we Liverpool. Who replaces him ?

Mutch gives us energy, physicality and goals but his first instinct is to run forward

Medel gives us defensive cover and the best square ball since Ray Wilkins

Kimbo brilliant control, but in one season I have not seen him own and run a game, defensively suspect

Eikrem - looked good in 20 mins

Bellers - Probably best as a 10 so that rules out kimbo/Mutch in that position so we are talking about who partners medel

Our best midfield combination = Eikrem Medel Mutch Kim with Noone and Bellamy interchanging from bench. This not taking account of Daelhi/Zaha though

Anyone can with varying degrees of success. But professional footballers can usually do it better than most and I genuinely think there are none in the world who are not able to effect something as simple as a corner kick. Some better than others granted but for example in our team alone we have at least 6 players who could execute one at least as effectively as Whittingham.

This assist nonsense is the only factor spouted in his favour. The only assists which should count in determining a players effectiveness are those in open play, and he provides badly here compared to Kim and Mutch.

This Whittingham thing is an urban myth. This is not American Football. He is a passenger in the team and a liability. I reckon without him this season we could be now at least 10 points better off! :x

Anyone can take a corner, yes, but not everyone can take a good corner, and more to the point, not many can consistently take more than a good corner (sometimes an excellent one), like Whittingham used to do, and can still do. Remember extra time in the Carling Cup final? I seem to recall that the corner that Turner scored from was only City's second of the match. The first had instantly preceded it. Had anyone apart from Whittingham taken them for City, they could have been the usual so-so corner that is easily defended/cleared. Instead, they were two corners of the very highest quality, with the most fantastic curl on them - straight down the throat of Pepe Reina. The first one was cleared off the goal line (literally, not like nowadays, when commentators proceed to shout 'Off the line!' when the ball is cleared about 10 yards from goal), and the second one resulted in the equaliser, of course.
