Ole Gunnar Solskjae Says " We deserved better "

We deserved better second half reward, says Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Saturday 11th Jan 2014;

On his first Premier League game in charge, Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he thought they deserved more in the second half

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made some brave second half substitutions

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reflected upon his Cardiff City team’s loss to West Ham and insisted the Bluebirds deserved better reward from the match.

The new Bluebirds boss says he was surprised by what he saw as a lack of urgency and energy from his players in the first half.

But he was delighted with the way they rallied after the break, putting siege to the West Ham penalty box, and maintains Cardiff should have had something for those efforts.

“When you lose by two goals, often you can take it because you know it has been a fair result,” said Solskjaer.

“But in the second half we had twice the possession, far more shots, but it just didn’t happen for us.

“I was surprised at the first half display because strangely we lacked energy and enthusiasm and that’s something I’m going to need to look at and address.

“The players had been bright in training and I thought we had prepared them well.

“I will need to assess why we started so slowly, but Craig Bellamy came on in the second half and made a difference.

“In fact I thought we were excellent in that second half and did everything, apart from putting the ball in the net.

“Which, of course, is the most important thing in football.

“During the match West Ham had three shots on target and scored from two of them.

“We had seven or eight shots on target, but things didn’t quite go right for us this time.”

The 2-0 loss sends Cardiff into the bottom three, with two daunting away matches looming.

The first is against champions-elect Manchester City, the second at Old Trafford against a wounded Manchester United.

Solskjaer isn’t fearful of the challenges ahead, though, pointing out: “Look, we have to play those two away anyway at some point.

“If we can get something out of either of those trips, then it will be a big help. But we are more than capable of doing that.

“Yes we are in the bottom three, but I’ve said before this Premier League is split into two different leagues. You have a second league from 10th place down and we have to be competitive in that second league.

“We still have lots of home games to come against teams in that second league I talk about and we need to take advantage of those.

“I’m getting to know the players better and we know loads of work still needs to be done here.

“Most of it will be with the players we already have, although I’m looking at a few other options. When there is something else to be said on that, we’ll let everyone know.”

Solskjaer had a special mention for the Cardiff fans, who created a magnificent atmosphere for the manager’s first home game in charge.

“They were great. They almost blew the ball over the West Ham line at times, but it just wasn’t to be in the ed,” continued Solskjaer.

“We didn’t take our chances, whereas West Ham took the few which came their way.”

West Ham’s under pressure manager Sam Allardyce declined to attend the post-match Press conference, sending in his number two Neil McDonald to meed the media.

“Sam’s just sent me in to say he’s delighted with the spirit the players showed,” said McDonald.

“It’s been a really tough week for us, with lots of goals conceded and plenty of criticism flying.

“But I think we showed terrific spirit and resolve to win this one and get out of the bottom three.

“We were obviously wary of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer factor on this game. Cardiff had won up at Newcastle, it was his first home game and they were really going to be up for it.

“But we controlled the opening minutes, and scored first.”

YOU WHAT????????

:)

Kim Bo was awful imo. Lost the ball in almost every challenge. Bellamy was great I thing. Eikrem didn't look like a reindeer in the headlights when he received the ball - thats all I'm saying :)

Agree that Kimbo seemed out of sorts today. Bellamy injected some urgency. Thought Odemwingue looked sharp first half. Campbell tried and tried but for the love of god, why did Malky pay £8M for Cornelius. Clearly he saw something I didnt but can someone enlighten me please.

You deserve better Ole, you've got fickle cunts fascinated with some Scottish bloke whose got an obsession with hoofball to midgets who loves to fist pump and spend high amounts of money on fraud strikers

Campbell tried his best, I agree, but just not sharp enough. I have to admit that I have never ever heard of Cornelius before I entered this forum (and I like to think that I am at least semi-updated on international footbal) - and Malky paid 8M for him!?

He's a big fellow and might be the just the guy CCFC need now - maybe OGS wil get him on track :)

We did deserve better without a shadow of a doubt. We were by far the better team and we were the victims of some dubious officiating to say the least  But at the end of the day we lacked that cutting edge up front, we just aren't clinical enough in that final third. Another striker and a real good winger someone with some real flair is in my opinion a necessity. But don't give up hope fellow bluebirds, it's going to be a scrap till the end :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We signed Cornelius on three viewings, when Kobenhaven had the title wrapped up.

Second half was great, but as you say: a sharp striker is needed! Maybe Cornelious will come along- OGS might make it happen. One goal might do it all for him - he's just a young bloke with a high pricetag.

But in the end I think this will end up all good :)

tbh i wnt be broken hearted if we go down. Seems like we dont play often enough, missing floodlight midweek games and away tickets are a closed shop. Wont bother me if we do enough to build the squad this year, go down and see if we can bouce back. Either way, i miss the champoinship

Why does missing the championship in favour of the premiership call into question my credentials as a fan? Perhaps I'll just have to bow to your superior support which seems to amount to criticising those with a different opinion

Bellamy came on yesterday and for 45 minutes he pulled the strings from midfield. That was perfect for him as he could use his experience and skill to good effect. It nearly worked and I hope that Ole does not ignore him as Malky started to do. But he has lost his stamina and his explosive pace. How anyone who has watched him last season or this can suggest that we start him up front or out wide is beyond me. Do some people actually watch the game?

OGS is the one who spotted Cornelius and recommended him to Man Utd which started the big interest in him from us and other clubs so that's quite funny

I don't understand what fickle cunts have to do with this either?

Malky was a great manager - but he had to go due to Tans idiocy & OGS will hopefully be a good manager but the fans have to get behind him

Idiocy or maybe MM can't be trusted with money. Along with Moody.
