Are we good enough?

Sat Jan 11, 2014 5:18 pm

I absolutely love cardiff city, I always have and always will but I'm starting to question whether we're actually good enough or not? Next two games are away to the Manchesters and if we don't pick up points we could be seeing ourselves going rock bottom. On the plus side we would have played them both twice aswell as arsenal twice. It's very tight at the bottom and anyone from 11th could go down. Losing to West Ham at home is painful, teams below us in the league are the teams we need to be taking points off! Sunderland home, really fancied us, had it in the bag and conceded 2 late goals. Southampton home, fancied at least a point, got pasted. Really fancied us today and lost again. I hate to sound negative but it's not looking good. I hope things turn around over the next few weeks.

I do feel that the squad we have is capable of keeping us up. But I don't think we will. I think the draw with Sunderland and the loss today have made it increasingly difficult to make survival possible. Malky used to set us up to make us hard to beat. Now with him gone it is going to take a few games for the squad and new players to adjust to a new style of play, and that is why I think we will go down. Not enough time for the squad to adjust.

Simply no,on that performance relegation is a certainty

Sadly no. Never have been. Down I'm afraid and it pains me to admit this.

Currently, NO. At present we are a very poor side in the PL - probably the worst! The positive is we have Ole, and I have no doubts we will get better under his management. Whittingham and Odemwingie will hopefully be toast soon; and then with a few quality additions we will climb the table! :ayatollah:

Goodness me, some really can't wait to see the back of Whitts. Shocking stuff.

Nowhere near good enough .... At least 5 quality players needed

I've said before I think we have the 2nd or 3rd weakest squad in the division easily . We are crying out for a good striker

Whitts only shoots from a set piece. What he doesn't do is tackle. He doesn't put balls through for Frazier to get onto and give him a chance to run on goal and he is not a threat in open play! We need midfielders that create chances for the strikers and themselves - and he does neither!

That's the second time you've said that now, but in case you hadn't noticed, the club is not actually lying at the foot of the table

City and Utd next and short of a miracle, I think you can safely say we'll be propping up the league very soon. However, as I said we now have Ole, so I'm confident with his new additions we'll start to climb the league soon after.

This thing about him not tackling is, quite frankly, ludicrous. I remember Birmingham at home last season, when he made a perfectly timed sliding tackle on Burke, who was racing away on the counter. Admittedly, he doesn't do it often, and that was a last-ditch sort of thing, but it proved that he does and can tackle a player successfully. It's never going to be his forte, it's just the player he is. This accusation which is often levelled against him generally only comes from the type of fans that chant 'get into them, f**k 'em up'. The ones who demand 'pashun' and the like.

I saw one instance today where he shot at goal, and which wasn't directly from a set-piece. So that dismisses your theory that he only shoots when taking a free-kick, and that he isn't a threat in open play. As for your accusation that he fails to put chances on a plate for Fraizer Campbell, it wasn't that easy today, given that WHU parked the bus in the second half. Right on the six-yard line, as well.

By the way, what are 'stickers'? Are they a sort of new attacking player?

We need to plan for a strong championship campaign next season, start to look now for a promotion push and see what type of players we will need :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah:

I was a fan of whitts, but it's time for him to have a spell on the bench. As a few have said there is no potent threat from him in open play! Set pieces you won't get much better delivery but at this level we need more than that. I thought he was dog shit against Sunderland, obviously the manager knows more than us and that's why we are on here and not on the side with him but it doesn't take a football expert to see Whittingham in open play is not good enough. Daya you're not wrong there butt, thankfully though there's a lot of Shit down the bottom with us including your beloved West Ham.

Mutch is the attacking midfielder that we need, he tackles, pushes forward with pace and looks for those split passes to bring in the strikers and he goes for goal as well. I know what player I'd rather have in my team out of the two.

The squad isn't despite heavy investment, we haven't bought in the right positions, still no clinical striker, still no CB for Caulker etc, this should have been sorted to in the summer, we can stay up definitely but we need players that are gonna fit into Ole's system, saw some good things

Good points about Mutch, he is an excellent player in the making (he's very good already, of course), and I agree with that last sentence. Whitts can still play an excellent through ball, though. Ultimately, they are slightly different players. Mutch is more 'all-action', admittedly.

Re: Are we good enough?

No. That's the fact of the matter. Last summers transfers in,,,& the lack of transfers out,,,,dictated out current position, & our eventual fate in this division. It's little short of scandalous that things have come to this, & many are to blame, imho!
