Kenwyne Jones has been fined two weeks' wages by Stoke City after texting manager Mark Hughes to say he was unavailable to play against Liverpool.
The Trinidad and Tobago striker was hit with an £80,000 penalty after failing to report for Sunday's game.
Jones, who has six months left on his contract, contacted his manager on Saturday night to say he had no intention of turning up at the Britannia Stadium.

Everton are being linked with a very surprising move for Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones.

Reports have emerged this evening in both The Guardian and The Mirror suggesting Jones has gone on strike in an attempt to force through a move to Goodison Park.

The news has come as a huge shock to Evertonians, and it remains to be see if there is any truth in the speculation, but according to the reports Blues Boss Roberto Martinez sees the 29 year old someone who can provide further numbers to his attack.

Jones only has six months left on his deal at the Britannia Stadium and failed to show for the Potters’ weekend game with Liverpool citing personal reasons, and now it is being suggested that he has gone on strike amidst interest from the Toffees.

He'd just be another half decent striker who'd come in and grab a goal or two, but suffer the same inconsistencies and lack of service as our other frontmen.

I think our strikers' fortunes are only going to change once Ole implements a more attacking style and gives them some service. Until then, by playing the likes of Odemwingie out on the right or Campbell up there by himself, we're going to struggle for goals - buying in another striker won't make a hell of a difference IMO...
