TYNE AND WEAR DERBY

Fri Jan 10, 2014 3:26 pm

The police tried to make this fixture a bubble trip due to trouble at every derby but fan groups from newcastle and sunderland got together, challenged the police against it and won.

Anyone think theres any chance of us and the jacks challanging the police to make our derby bubble free?

Interesting one to debate.

the arguement has got to be.it doesnt happen else where.

This is a bit of a misrepresentation of the facts, isn't it?

The game was moved to an early kick off on a Saturday, and not due to being televised. Newcastle and Sunderland said it was due to police advice. Police then said they have never given such advice (or something like that), and that they wouldn't have the power to change the kick off time.

This pissed off both clubs, who accused the police of lying, and both released a joint statement saying that they've now informed the Premier League that they will happily have the fixture at any time the Premier League want in future, and will no longer take advice from Police on the matter.

Sunderland also confirmed that whilst they'd previously insisted fans going to the game take their coaches, they were now removing that requirement and would let fans make their own way to the game if they so wanted.

This was f**k all to do with fans fighting against it being a bubble match, and everything to do with the clubs getting pissed at the police for claiming they never forced them to change the kick off time of the derby. At least as far as I've read at least...that being the official statements ;)

Don't know their normal policy. I assume in this instance it was to help the police manage the situation, but I think both clubs have all but told the police they can do one from now on :D

K'West is right but is it time to consider removing thebubble v Swansea? I don't think there would be the carnage of years gone by any more. With sensible policing and a sensible kick off time it could just work.

I actually think the bubble is helping stoke up the rivalry because it continues the myth that WWIII would break out and we can't be trusted.

The majority of our fans these days would run a mile from any trouble. What do people think?

i did all thederbies between 68 and the ban, went there twice during the ban, cant be arsed with bubble trips, carnage is over stating it............i dont recall Swansea about the place once prior to the games at either ground { not a dig,the truth }. Cardiff did run riot prior to the FA cup game and there was trouble after a couple of games down the vetch, but certainly not the carnage that gets talked about. the game at NP, whicj brought on the ban, followed by bubble trips, Swansea arrived very late {not sure if KO was delayed, there was a bit of fighting outside the ground just before KO....then the seats at the children incident which resulted in Cardiff invading the pitch from all ends...........despite what the news said at the time Swansea had not all entered the ground, those in the ground were in the upper grandstand and did not invade the pitch. most of
the trouble ive witnessed between us and them as been away from the games mostly not even on a match day.
no doubt some will not agree with my take on it because you cannot be everywhere at once,i might have missed things , but thats how i recall these games...the bubble trips and the media talking the hatred up hasnt helped.....but dont see how the police can now drop the bubble, the very 1st person injured would be national news with the police taking the flak for relaxing it.

Look at how many arrests been made since they were bubble compared to previous.

Why would they change that now? It works and it's safer

Can't see them removing the bubble, to be honest. Considering our games are getting beamed to more televisions than ever before, I don't think either club is going to want to risk getting negative coverage over fans fighting, etc.

The fans argued that it weren't fair on supporters having to go to Sunderland to get on the coaches, when they could go straight to Newcastle via car, train etc.
