Cardiff City deal for Mame Diouf moves closer as Hannover sign replacement striker.

The German club have snapped up Latvian striker Artjoms Rudnev, meaning they are are now ready to cash in on Diouf

Cardiff City have been invited to push on with a move for Senegal striker Mame Diouf after Hannover snapped up his replacement.

Hamburg frontman Artjoms Rudnev's linked up with the Hannover yesterday after the Latvian completed his loan switch from the Bundesliga rivals.

And it has seen one Hannover official quoted as admitting there are now greater opportunities for the club to cash-in on contract rebel Diouf after he again confirmed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's interest.

Hannover coach Tayfun Korkut, who recently took over duties from Mirko Slomka, yesterday spoke of his determination to keep hold of Diouf, but the signing of Rudnev is thought to have softened that stance, with Diouf's contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Hannover president Martin Kind revealed earlier this week he would be prepared to cash-in on former Manchester United rookie Diouf amid links with the 26-year-old to a switch to the Bluebirds.

It is understood a fee of around £2.5m would be enough to persuade the Bundesliga club to sell the Senegal frontman after he told them he will not sign a new deal when his current contract runs out.

Diouf sparked speculation he was ready to quit Germany when he failed to report for training earlier this week, but is now back with teammates having claimed he was absent with concerns of a family illness.

Diouf is another to have played for Norwegian club Molde, also representing his country 15 times.

The 26-year-old joined Molde in 2007 and in his first season they won the Norwegian First Division, earning promotion to the Norwegian Premier League.

He was signed by Manchester United in 2009, but was allowed to stay with Molde on loan until January 2010 when he made the move to Old Trafford.

Diouf scored on his home debut for United and was an unused substitute for the League Cup final victory against Aston Villa. He moved on to join Hannover a year ago and has scored five goals in 12 appearances this season.
