One thing all should know about Solskjær, however calm and collected he might seem, is how cynical he really is. He has great ambitions as a person and as a manager and he is determined to be a great manager. So with this, if he gets/wants a player, this is to make him self look good and that he trusts this player to do well under his rule.
So obviously, he sees Eikrem as a player who can fight for a place in the starting XI as will Diouf (if he comes). I also see Solskjær is interested (allegedly) in Sporting Lisboa forward Islam Slimani. I personally do not know much about this guy.
