Greetings from Norway

Here’s my thoughts on Solskjær from a Norwegian point of view. I've been a united supporter since 1990 and I still remember his transfer and his first game for United. I have followed his manager career as closely as his playing career, because I really believe this guy someday will be the next Manchester United manager.

Many people don’t understand why he turned down Aston Villa when now his taking over Cardiff. I think the answer to that question is loyalty. When joining Molde in ’94 after a unsuccessful trial at Rosenborg, the biggest club in Norway, he stated he felt disrespected by the legendary Rosenborg manager Nils Arne Eggen. After he became a goal-scoring sensation for Molde, Manchester United made a bid for him just before the end of the transfer window in ’96. However the time was short. At the this time there where no flights going from Molde to Manchester that would have gotten him to meet the United officials in time before the end of the transfer window. Molde owner and the richest man in Norway Kjell Inge Røkke (later bought Wimbeldon) personally flew Solskjær in his private jet to Manchester in time for him to sign the deal. Neither where the bid for Solskjær so high that the owner felt he had to sell. Basically the owner did it so Solskjær could join his favorite clubs rival and play in the premier league. Yes Solskjær was a registered Liverpool supporter at that time.

The owner Kjell Inge Røkke is the same guy that went ballistic in Norwegian media after reports of Aston Villa owner Randy Lerners jet landing in Kristiansund to pick up Solskjær. After returning to Kristiansund Solskjær was picked up by Røkkes jet and brought to his home in Oslo. It was quit a media spectacle where Røkke was feeling hurt due to lack of information. This ended with a parodic scene in the style of a mafia movie when Røkke stated that his family and Solskjærs family had eaten a long good meal og now everybody understands everybody. Solskjær stays. To me it seems Solskjær stayed because he felt he had to be loyal to man that helped him become a United player. It’s the same loyalty he has to both United and Ferguson.

In the aftermath of his contact with Villa the media printed copys of emails where Solskjær stated to the club that he would take Dempsey and Hartis with him from the staff, and Magnus Wolf Eikrem. Dempsey and Hartis worked for him at Manchester United reserves and Eikrem played there. Looking back to Solskjærs farewell speech at Old Trafford after his testimonial, he talks a lot of becoming a manager and learning from Ferguson. After working with the forwards in the club he soon become reserve manager, already building his future manager career with staff and players. Reports said he had a Manchester United manager clause even in his first contract with Molde. This guy has a plan.

While being a reserve manager he was offered the manager job for the Norwegian national team one or two times. Stating he would never leave United as long as Ferguson still is in charge. At the same time Solskjær helping United and Molde establish a formal link and advising Ferguson to buy Mame B. Diouf. Then suddenly he states he states he is going home to Norway because of his family. Taking over Molde with Dempsey and Hartis. And Wolf Eikrem. You do the math. Something tells me Ferguson is masterminding his whole career. The signing of Dæhli to Molde was regarded as very strange in Norway. He was regarded as Uniteds biggest talent. Better than Januzaj. 1 year ago. People in Norway have for a long time understood that this is going to be the best Norwegian player ever. Reports of the player being homesick just doesn't add up, because now he is in Cardiff :ayatollah:

I think Solskjær is United's long term plan. And they trust him and knows his loyalty. so they even sell him their best talents because they know he will sell them back when they ask. I also think Solskjær is playing all his sides in the United way. That’s why its crucial for him to sign his central midfielders, so the team will adapt easier to his his style. The Cardiff job will be his final test before taking over United. With Dempsey, Hartis, Eikrem/Dæhli. Solskjær has previously stated in interviews how he loves playing football manager and I think he loves beeing a manager with the same passion he had as a player. I think he will be the next big thing after Jose Mourinho and that he will achieve miracles with Cardiff. EPL after next season would not surprise the least.

Cheers

See I heard that Fergie spent 26 years at Man U as practice for when he becomes Cardiff manager.

Solksjaer's here to get the club used to his methods before Fergie comes for his biggest managerial appointment of his career.

Great post, good to hear your view and I agree that Ole has a bright future ahead of him especially with Cardiff. His performance with us will probably determine how good of a manager he is and will be, no disrespect to the Norwegian leagues.

Interesting theory. Seems a bit farfetced though.

I'm excited to see these players.

United may see him as their potential manager for the future, but I doubt anything is planned out. One thing we can all be quite certain of is that the Glazers won't ever appoint him before he's truly proved himself in a big league, regardless of his father-son relationship with Ferguson.

As a fellow Norwegian, I can't help to find it somewhat awkward that your introduction thread on a Cardiff forum revolves around their club being a brief stepping stone for their newly appointed manager, even if that might be the (theoretical) case. Luckily the Brits on here are living up to their reputation of politeness. Let's just hope that he and Cardiff do well, and leave the distant future until it's knocking on the door.

Our nature of being cynical arseholes takes priority over politeness, reading this board much will prove that
