HOLD the back page, Hammers fans. According to Big Sam, Andy Carroll is close to a first-team return!
Yeah, I know. And in other news, it’s been revealed that night follows day.
I mean how many times have we heard that Andy Carroll is nearing a first-team return since he last nearly returned to the first team.
It’s not quite as boring as news bulletins kicking off with items on the weather – (ooh, rain and wind in winter, who’d have thought it?) – but it’s only a short head away in second.
Andy Carroll is close to a first team return or Allardyce has the backing of the board. Which do you believe least?
But it’s not all doom and gloom. Far from it. Roger Johnson’s signed up. That’s got to be good news, hasn’t it?
Fresh from the Wolverhampton wilderness, via a spell at Sheffield Wednesday, he’s just the type that West Ham fans would envisage can stop the highest scoring team on the planet from sticking five or six past them in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final.
Except, of course, he won’t. I’m on the City-City half-time full-time and over 4.5 goals. If Forest can smash West Ham to pieces – even if it was the Hammers’ fourth eleven – than a rampant City will batter them.
And anyway, West Ham’s trip to Cardiff at the weekend in the Premier League is far more important than this tie.
Who knows, maybe Carroll will be fit to return for that one? I wonder how he’s getting on – we’ve not heard for a while ...
