A Real Concern

Mon Jan 06, 2014 6:16 pm

Whilst it is exciting bringing in new players, we must beware and be wary. The current squad has never been in the bottom 3 and have been real battlers over the last 2 years or more. There is also a real team ethic and as Bellamy has said, it is the hardest working squad he has been involved with. A few signings - yes. But too many - no. They will not guarantee success and despite the thoughts of a number, Witts , Gunner , Mutch, Kim, Bellamy and others are good players. We certainly do not need another goalkeeper. :ayatollah:

Eikrem and Dæhli are being signed for around £2.5m each as £5m for both was quoted.

Diouf is being reported to be going for £2.5-3.5m at most.

Thats 3 players, all of whom are gambles, at £8.5m maximum which is less than what we paid for Cornelius. The thing is, with small sums, you can make gambles but with large sums, if you do, then the owners parting with the cash want a return and rightly so.

Even if we sign the goalkeeper that takes our total spending to around £10m so we'd still have around £15m in the transfer kitty which still leaves open the possibility of signing Finnbogason if nothing else materialises with him at another club. Finnbogason has stated he will stay with Heerenveen but money talks and £10m would get him to the Premier League.
