Gary Medel

With the arrival of Eikrem and Daehli do you think that Olé may see Medel as a potential choice at CB next to Caulker? He had Rooney in his pocket agaist England. It would be nice to have 2 defenders who can play the ball and this is something that is lacking with Turner.

This question has been posted recently on the other board. Most concerns were about the fact that he's only 5ft 7ins tall. Yes, he plays there for Chile but I think we'd have problems in the Premier League with a lack of height.

I would play Medel as a CB, but only in a 3-5-1-1 because of his height

His height isn't an issue because he's so good in the air. Fabio Cannavaro was another classic example. Kevin McNaughton is also superb in the air despite his lack of height. I'd even suggest McNaughton at centre back with Caulker with Theophile-Catherine back in at right back.

Ideally, we want a new centre back in completely though. I feel Medel is still too key as a DM. I'm not sure how defensive or attacking the two new lads are but thought they might both be attacking midfielders. They could well play in a three man central midfield with Medel also playing there? Or maybe one pushes out wide with Mutch remaining in the middle?

I think its a good shout and if I remember correct a well as having Rooney in his pocket his distribution from the back caused England all sorts of problems.

Anyone know how Medel was played at Sevilla? I personally like him a lot in his DM position. I think it suits him well and he is one of the best at this role in the league... But as you say he can be good as a CB too. I think the good thing about him as a DM is that he shouts and organises the team a lot and tells the others where to go to (who knows if they really understand him...). We've been lacking that vocal leadership the past few games but Medel does give that.

It's easy

Marshall
KTC Caulks Huds John
Medel
Daehli kimbo MWE Noone/Bellamy
Frazier

Or push MWE out right, Bellamy/Noone Out left, start Daehli on the bench and have Mutch in the middle with Kim

We need Gary Medel in midfield because what will happen when we lose the ball while attacking? We'll have no players back and we will get killed on the counter attack. Medel is still a massively important part of the jigsaw. :ayatollah:
