Ole favourite to land Zaha with new Cardiff boss also closing in on Norwegian duo
By SIMON JONES

6th January 2014

Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has moved to make Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Mats Moller Daehli his first signings.
Both players were in Cardiff on Sunday night ahead of medicals with midfielder Eikrem, 23, arriving from Heerenveen for £2million and Daehil, 18, from former club Molde.
Both were former academy graduates from Manchester United and Solskjaer is also favourite to persuade the Old Trafford club to loan him winger Wilfried Zaha.

Frozen out: Wilfried Zaha (left) has barely featured for Manchester United since his move from Crystal Palace

The former Crystal Palace man has made only four appearances for Manchester United this term
Eikrem, 23, was pictured watching Cardiff's 2-1 FA Cup win at Newcastle on Saturday, while his Heerenveen team mates were boarding the plane for a winter training camp in Portugal.
Moller Daehli is an attacking midfielder. He landed at Heathrow at 3.30pm on Monday before going on to Cardiff's Vale Hotel training ground to complete his medical.
Solskjaer hopes to fend off competition from Crystal Palace and Newcastle for Zaha.

Striker Nicky Maynard, meanwhile, will be allowed to leave Cardiff on loan. Wigan, QPR, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have shown an interest.

His connections to Manchester United are already making a difference. I hope this loan goes through!

I dont think it has anything to do with his united connections. He was favourite to join when Malky was still in charge.

I was aware of that, but I was thinking overall, with Dæhli, Eikrem and the staff that he brought from Manchester to Molde and now Cardiff. I'm sure this makes the negotiations much less painful.

I see. Fair point.

I don't know about winger's quality Cardiff City have, but an option to land Zaha when Ole already have Daehli?

Not sure I understand this post 100% but I assume you're saying why loan Zaha when he has Dæhli(?).

I don't see Dæhli starting yet. He'll most likely be a sub/backup, just like he was at Molde. Zaha is a much better player than him right now. Ole signed Dæhli for his potential, not his current skills. He's only 18.

Left wing has been his primary position for at least the past year in the Norwegian league. He plays does central and on the right side as well. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/mats- ... 90831.html

No he wasn't. Newcastle were overwhelming favourites.

Looking at his You Tube clips, he seems to be playing central and looking to play through balls, rather getting down either wing

I guarantee you most of the games he started for Molde he started at left wing. He's an 'inside forward' type winger which is why he doesn't run down the wing much, but rather cuts to the inside. He gets out of position a lot. He shoots with his right and plays left side, which is natural for inside forwards. It's obvious they don't cross much. Of course he can, and has played, anywhere on the midfield. He's only 18 and players his age often haven't found their best position yet. Maybe adjusting to Cardiff will help him find that, if he hasn't yet. I think he's great at controlling the flow of the game which is why I personally would like to see him play central midfield more. Maybe because he gets out of position so much he's better as an attacking midfielder. Anyways, creative player!

Is this the same zaha that a lot on here were saying wasn't very good last may and we could do much better with tom ince.

Now ince turned us down zaha played 6 months of reserve team football for united he's now lauded

just think with Bellers losing his pace/being injured we don't have a really attacking pacy winger - Noone is the nearest and while he is tricky he hasn't got pace like Zaha.

Zaha now has something to prove, and a few months of being a nobody to put behind him - he needs somewhere to resurrect his career as he won't be getting one at Man U as he is.

He would get that with City :ayatollah:

Re: Ole favourite to land Zaha

I think he's a decent player. He's raved about by some big names.

He's a raw attacking lad with a trick, just what we need really. I don't expect miracles, but he's better than what we have, it's a world cup year and he has 5 months to book a seat.

I just don't like the people who thought he was a poor/average player last season and now he's Ronald, it's just like all those that call for tan out, then rave about signings from his money, or want signing s to be made

I was one of them and still believe it. I would prefer Tom Ince but Ince will cost around £4-5m even now whereas we can get Zaha on loan. Zaha on loan is a good deal. The point I made earlier on last year was that he was not worth anywhere near the sum Manchester United paid for him and I still rate Ince more highly. He has himself proven to be worth nowhere near that figure so far.

i wouldent give zaha the time of day he strikes me as a billy big boots who would cause more problems within the squad with his attitude.
see those press photgraphs the other week of him smoking and drinking in a night club the day before utd were playing.
just looks a wrong un to me whose big wages and transfer have gone to his head.

if this is true it's probably why moyes doesn't fancy him

might end up one of those players who never reaches their potential

That's such a Malky way of seeing things. If they've got attitude then they're not right for the team. A good manage should be able to nurture players with said attitude and demand respect and that is a fact. Ronaldo had bags of attitude and multiple managers got the best out of him. Ferguson mainly nurtured him into the player he is today. Lallana has loads of attitude but still, their foreign manager has got him playing great football and he is one of the main catalysts in them doing so well this year.

People need to stop assuming all players with attitude or players who mouth off are not worth while to the team. Warnock got the best out of Taarabt to get them promoted in the Championship as well. Some managers just need to grow a pair and do the job they were set out of to do and realise its their job to manage and that includes man manage, teach, bring belief to even the most challenging of characters etc.

There's not team in the entire league that doesn't have a player with a bad attitude, a different outlook and so on because thats life and people are different. Teams, top teams, need these edgy players because these types are the types that beat themselves up over failure and they drive themselves to be the best and to succeed and become recognised and talked about because they want the validation from people.

Now, if you're talking about the likes of Joey Barton, thats completely different. He doesn't have an attitude. His proven record proves he's just a knob. Players with attitude can be nurtured and the best can be got from them. Players who are insistent on being knobs are too much of a risk. Zaha has attitude and you could say his diving or theatrics at times are a joke but he hasn't done anything bad at all that says he's too much of a risk.

If Ole is a good manager, as I think he is, a true motivator who is respected, then I think he will get the best out of Zaha. I also think the 2 players who have come straight to join him also proves how much he is respected and how much of a likeable person he is. He will be listened to and his words will be taken on board because of who he is, what he's done at both playing level and managerial level and how he is portrayed with a good image.

Never met the guy, can only go from interviews from others, everyone who worked with him at palace couldn't say nice enough things about him.

A lot of guys smoke and still play, zidane didn't do to badly, as did ginola and a lot of the guys from abroad, and alcohol in moderation wouldn't bother me at a certain time and place. Its easy to put words to a picture without knowing the truth, the papers make a living from it.

I've no idea on the guys personal life myself, but I think at this moment his ability reflects us, he's a low to mid premiership player.

As for ince again I'd take him, but have no idea on the guy, but he looks a player and looks like he could improve around better players
