8 if pronounced in Cantonese ( Chinese dialect in Hong Kong/ Guandong China) rhymes like "fatt". Literally it means prosperity and plenty of luck.It created so much of fuss that house numbers or car reg. no. can fetch 10% higher in pricing with everything else being equal. Pepole tender for these car registration numbers in the Far East, sometimes amounting to 5000 quids or more.
So if you got 18 (it sounds like sure got luck), 28 (easy to get lucky), 68 (the more you work, the more lucky you get), 88 (double prosperity). Tan would surely want to avoid anything to do with 4 which sound like "die/ dead / bad luck."
btw, 88 also mean 2 fat aunties...lol
