Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he will wait until after his side’s FA Cup tie with Newcastle United before turning his attention to new recruits.
As reported by Sky Sports, the former Manchester United striker revealed that his only concern at the moment is the trip to the North East, a game from which he believes the Bluebirds can get a positive result.
“My priority is the game [against Newcastle]. Let’s get the game out of the way and then I can look to see what we need because the players here have been top of the Championship for years.”
Targets
Despite Malky Mackay being told in no uncertain terms by owner Vincent Tan that he would have no funds in the January window, it appears the Norwegian will have cash to spend.
There has been speculation linking both Jonathan Williams and Thomas Ince with a move to the Welsh capital; however Solskjaer refused to comment on the possibility of signing either player, insisting his main priority is working with the players currently at his disposal.
“I can’t say,” Solskjaer said. “I love working with young, enthusiastic players wanting to learn, wanting to improve.
“I’m looking at the possibilities we can have and the options but the important thing is for me to work with the ones I have because they’re such a great bunch of lads.”
Return
Former club skipper Mark Hudson will be hoping that the managerial change can reignite his Cardiff career after making just two appearances this season – both in the Capital One Cup.
He made 33 appearances in the club’s promotion campaign and could be named in Solskjaer’s inaugural line up at St James’ Park.
