Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targets up to five new recruits in January transfer window

Privately Solskjaer believes the Bluebirds need strengthening in their bid to climb back up the Premier League table, and he is ready to make his move
New Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to make an instant impact with the Bluebirds by swooping for up to five new players in this month’s transfer window.
Solskjaer has made a point of talking up the City squad he inherited from Malky Mackay and maintains every single player has the opportunity to make their mark upon him.
But privately Solskjaer believes the Bluebirds need strengthening in their bid to climb back up the Premier League table and he hopes to bring in key new men before next week’s crunch battle with fellow strugglers West Ham.
Solskjaer would not name targets yesterday, but admitted: “I am looking at the possibilities and the options we have.”
Already Solskjaer, who emphasises he wants his Bluebirds to be more creative, is being linked with moves for highly-rated Blackpool youngster Tom Ince and new Welsh wing wizard Jonathan Williams, of Crystal Palace.
Asked if the duo were on his radar, Solskjaer replied: “I can’t say.” But he admitted: “I like working with young, enthusiastic players who want to learn and improve. I have not read the papers, I have not seen the reports.”
Another option is Manchester United outcast Wilfried Zaha, who was heavily linked with the Bluebirds under Malky Mackay.
Zaha has become little more than a fringe figure under David Moyes since his £10million move to Manchester United and is keen to get football under his belt, whether on loan or as a permanent signing.
Solskjaer is also being linked in his Norwegian homeland with possible interest in three of his former Molde players.
One is Senegal striker Mame Biram Diouf, who helped Solskjaer’s team win back to back Norwegian League titles before joining German club Hannover.
Another is creative midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikrem. Capped 13 times by Norway, he was also part of Solskjaer’s successful Molde team before joining Heerenveen in Holland.
And young Molde midfielder Mats Møller Dæhli is another reported to be of interest.
Asked about bringing Norwegians over, Solskjaer replied: “As I said I like working with young, enthusiastic players. I will do my very best to scout good, young players.
“There are names popping up everywhere. I have had a list of players the club have followed from before and it is important we acknowledge the work they have done, while I have my view on a couple of players I know from before.”

Such bad journalism
He hasn't mentioned any specifics, only a minisule little hint that he likes to sign young players which anyone with a brain cell could see from his record although it seems pretty obvious that he'll go for Daehli

I'm sure this Abbandonato guy just makes stuff up.

Paul addabumboys is a useless lazy journalist.

Gotta agree - the "journalism" at this joint is shocking beyond belief.
Their circulation is falling off a cliff because they are copy and paste merchants!
I do have a laugh when I see something happen on my twitter feed then, about an hour later, they post it up virtually word for word from original source....
They are worrying big time down there cos redundancies loom but they do nothing to help themselves - when was the last exclusive? Enough said.....

So Tan sacked Malky for spending £50m, breaking our transfer record three times and playing crap football, now he's going to sanction another five players? Doesn't add up does it? He'll have to get rid if a few I expect.

I think the clue is in the name......Moody

Why are people missing the point its not only what Malky spent but look at how he has wasted money, I don't blame tan one bit for not giving him a penny more.

3 permanent and 2 loan signings by the looks then

I bloody hope so. We need to clear out all the deadwood Malky wasted money on over the past 2 seasons

OGS will find it easier to move players on as he has no attachment to the squad that got us promoted. If not in Jan then a massive clearout is on the cards for summer.

Privately he has said these things, but somehow the walesonline know already!
I'd be shocked if we bought more than 2 players in this month. Big changes in Jan never seem to work.
Let's just get a loan and buy a player, get the team going forward and reassess in june

Why would any sane person give malky more money to burn, atleast OGS should spend it wisely, you don't need to keep spending 10 mil to find a good player
Sat Jan 04, 2014 11:10 am
whatever the rights and wrongs of sacking Malky, his brand of football was largely defensive, which is a shame as when we attacked we looked great. is that the players fault or manager? Like against man city, utd, and the 2nd half v the jacks to name a few. if Ole gets us playing this way and adds a bit of steal and creativity on the wings then maybe tan will see what he wants....lets hope it keeps us up.

January window, and we need a striker to get 10 goals to keep us up (love Campbell's work rate, but his scoring record is not enough).
If OGS tries to strengthen every department he will spread his resources too thinly.
Yes, buy up some promising youngsters in the summer, but today we need premier league experience.

Really hope some one at the club tells him about Kadeem Harris on loan at Brentford before they start spending the cash because I really think that we've got a gem in that boy.

Sounds strange that he would do such a thing at his first Cardiff-game, if it was not transfer-related. But you never know.
The rumours are raising eyebrows in Norway. Not that he has not been mentioned among (ex-)Molde-players that Norwegian press would like to see go to Cardiff... But while he has a close relationship with Solskjær, and was central to the way Solskjær wanter Molde to play - he is after all just in the process of getting established in the Netherlands (came there last summer).
Some pundits here have warned him against bringing in Norwegian players, as there will be a risk of them being looked upon as the "norwegian quota" and judged against a higher standard because of that. And coming from a lower reputation league, it would probably not be a signing that would ensure immediate impact?
In Molde Eikrem played mostly as a holding midfielder (sometimes attacking midfielder), pacing the play and was pivotal for dominating possession. He played a patient game while always looking for the opportunity to play killer balls, often trying to find wingers with room to run at. Has been said to have a good vision of the play. How that will look like when playing in the Premier League is anyone's guess. According to Norwegian press reports a while back, Rene Meulensteen has been praising him and regretting that Alex Ferguson never gave him chances. Meulensteen compared him to Luka Modric and rated his technical and tactical abilities. But then again, Alex Ferguson deemed him not good enough (at least then).

it's too naive to say "just want to watch a football game"
